you just have to find other ways to save energy.. Turn the water heater down (if electric), make sure unnecessary things are unplugged (phone charger, ipod charger, printer, whatev) switch to cfls, dryers use a shitton of energy... it shouldnt be to terribly difficult to cut back enough power.

all lights are cfls and two lights are almost always on. theres almost always 1 tv on (26" old tv. computer on most of the time, and thats pretty much it. probably has something to do with everything plugged in.

your math has to be incorrect. no where in the country does it cost .38 cents kw. using the .12 hourly kw price you would only pay about 50 bucks more a month going up 800 watts.

I upgraded from a 150 watt HPS to a 400 watt HPS for flowering. I use the 150 HPS in my veg room now along w/ 4 x 26 watt CFL and an inline fan to cool the 400- watter.

I lowered my bill. Changed my hot water heater temp, changed every light to CFL, turn off the CPU when not using, unplug TV when not using and it worked. I payed less last month than I did a year ago.

in my one bedroom I paid over 300 dollars a few months last summer in cali for a 400 24 hours and a 600 12 and 12 and an airconditioner. I dont use a lot of other juice. Cfls and a microwave once and a while. Crazy shit. Now I use a t5 and a 600 and use 18/6 to veg and have set up trees and shades to keep the sun off my place. I got it down to 50 bucks with no 600 and the t5. Well see.

Are your rates based on the time of day? Switch to off peak hour use if so. If you aren't on a plan like that with your electric company then call them and ask about it and look into changing it.

Are you using air conditioning in the house period to keep the ambient temps in line? Even though you are fully ducted it could easily be sucking out way more air from the room than you think, and cost a lot extra that way or something. Maybe try venting and sealing the room off from the house in a more efficient way if you can think of one and switch any a/c to the most efficient you can find.

this is in the winter/spring time. there is no use for an ac. heater is gas in the house. and the grow is in a seperate unit not in the house.

boy, i would love to say your right. but you are far from it. i want to add an additional 600 watt hps, but i can almost guarantee that it would make the price jump to the next tier which would be .40/kwh. if you really dont believe, i dont care.this is not my bill posted. some image i found on google.

second image is my bill. i dont understand why my bill is saying @ 177 kwh = .40/kwh and this other guys says 500+kwh = .40/kwh

did talk to the pge company and got onto some program where they average your bill every 4 months and it brough the price down around $150

You need to get your baseline re-evaluated. You can have them do that with a phone call. For that month, run enough to have an elevated bill and then they will establish the new baseline from there. Had to do this at my old place. Whoever rented it before must have used a flashlight and never cooked as their bill was about $50 for a 3 bedroom house. The baseline was so low that we went into tier 3 halfway through the first month. Called the power company to complain and they fixed the numbers. Next month was nominal with 600 watts of light on 18/6 for all 30 days.

well, this isnt a new place though. been living here for past 20 years. do you think they would still re-evaluate it?

Yes. Tell them that you rented out a couple of rooms and with the extra peeps, the consumption has multiplied. You can also tell them you just installed AC and need that factored in.
