I haven't grown in this house and have been here for 8-9 months with a small electric bill. If throw on 4 1000 watters am I going to get some trouble here?

A good thing to do, when you first move into a new place run the bill high for the first month get an idea of how mouch things are befor and after you start your grow op. if you got high eletrick bills first month you move in, and every month after that then there really nothing suspicious.

hmmmm well i live in a 2 bedroom apartment. just bought 2 1500 watt heaters along with when i get my washer fixed. i dont think they will come knocking and the 2 heaters alone are 3000 watts.

exactly and your tv is about 500 watts and what your using is about 800 watss with the monitor. Dont forget your fridge which uses over 1k and also your electric stove using 1000s of watts....
Its insane to think your going to get a knock on your door just because of a 1000w light

yeah i was going to say all those but i have already been using those for a while. i was paranoid at first but now i realized people consume more energy all the times in their homes. i think it is a bit of paranoia whenever you start growing. on my last grow i would see a helicopter and then think they were on to me haha. just to bust my 4 plant big ole operation. but i suppose being careful is better than being careless. but people buy new energy using things all the time. haha just noticed nowstopwhining is back. welcome back from being a bad boy haha.

it costs me for a fan and 400hps less than 10p a day 20 cents i think, but electric will be cheaper in america. as is petrol/deasel. really its nothing to get parra. about honest. just dont tell nobody, and youll be fine. it would only like having a extra bath, or vacuming, or useing a tumble dryer cos its winter.Ok, so I just read on the Nirvana sight under grow guide section that a rise of 500 watts form the year before can get you a knock at your door. I am running a 400 HPS and the fans with it. I thought that they only really took a notice if it was a huge power use in a house. I live in a 1800 sf house. Does anyone have any idea if this is something to worry about???
knowone will say anything to you about using 400hps, you wont show up on a radar. if your that bothered and scared you mite get caught try to turn lites around the house , after you have used them. and everything else you use, like turning tv,vid,pc,cable box, dont fill the kettle for only one drink. ect...ect...ect... and youll probly save electric. i did. take some readings and see for yourself.

I just realised that my PS3 takes in 350 watts when its in use (which is a ALOT), so how will a few lights make a difference? I know here in london the police catch people with Heat seeking helicopters. I stuck my plants outside a few weeks back and they are slowly dieing. But thinking about it now, a few CFLs in my house was absolutely NOTHING compared to all the other stuff i run (laptops, tv, washing machine etc.)

thats exactly right....your computer with the moniter uses ATLEAST 500 watts. a hundred or two for the moniter and and easily 300 for the computer...Most are about 400+ watts.
Most of my friends have atleast 2 computers.
Yeah a few cfls is nothing trust me.

A great way to even out your bill is ironicly...using more cfl's If you replace your regular lightbulbs with cfl's it will cut the normal usage way down and then when you use all the stuff in the growroom it will be a much smaller rise in energy consumption. Also unpluging anything you can when its not being used helps a little, as electricity seeps out when things are pluged in. Suposedly power strips are really bad about seeping power. Just my 2c

Yup thats what I did, and I shut off my power strip with my tv, modem, router, and laptop every night. I also turned down the fridge and freezer a little bit that helped.

My power bill is never more than 150$ I've got a 4000 Gal. koi pond out front, ive got a 20,000gal pool, a 8 person hot tub, a tankless water heater, 2 side by sides, and a very large stand up meat only fridge. 7 t.v.'s, 6 cfls and 300w hps. in a 2400 sq' foot house. been adding more and more things to my homefor the last 6 years, i just added a 400 lead instead of 220 like normal homes cause of the 1200sq foot addition i am building at the moment. never ever a question from the power company.

I concur, if you have a foreign voltage detector (lowes) it will peg out over a cheap power strip. i am in with two people at the power company now and one of them is a meter reader so i am going to bring up the usage questions and see what he has to say. the cfl's for regular lighting makes a good difference. rumor has it all the big light bulb manufactures are going to switch all regular bulbs to cfl, who knows.
