Poudery Mildew

I seem to be noticing the very start of poudery mildew. The plant is 4 weeks into flower and so far I have treated it by removing affected leaves in the hope of reducing possible spread. When I say the start I mean the start. It is only a very small amount of white spots and they are very tiny. Removing the affected leaves is hopefully helping to improve the circulation and thereby reducing the problem. I know spraying milk diluted in water helps to stop it but I am worried that this will mess up my buds. I only have one big plant in flower in a cab so checking all the leaves is not a issue but I would love some input. I do not have pics of the problem as it is too tiny to capture in a picture. There are however pics (very up to date) of my grow on my journal. :-(

Do you have a link to your grow journal? I camer across this website which has some good info on plant problems and general troubleshooting www.grow-marijuana.com/pests-dieases. Might be worth a look. Hope it works out for you though bro.

^H2O2 Hydrogen peroxide is a good option. Safe, have used Actinovate also and is safe in flower up to 3 days before harvest. Treat at least 2-3 times in 10 days to be sure you have contained it even if it looks like it is gone. Make sure you spray the stems to the root. Heard it starts on stem and travels up to the leaves...

Are you sure that's what it is?
Good question. I think so. I had in one place only very small area white, pourdery and a small square, when I wiped it with my finger it came off. This was about 2 weeks ago. Then I noticed it coming back in the same spot, so I cut the leaf. Last night I noticed very vey tiny spots on one or two leaves again white. Tried to wide it with my finger but it did not really move. Removed those leaves. Looked tonight at every leaf and they seem fine. It could be some trichromes that have grown on the leaf and now reflecting in the light. So yes it could be nothing or it is mildew. Apparently it is a way to treat the problem by removing affected leaves. I suppose I have seen it very early so this method may be enough. Also I have hear that reducing nitrogen in the soil helps to take fungus's food away. To be honest I have been nailng the nutes so I will just water with plain water for the next week before giving nutes again. The plant looks awesome and I smoked a tester tonight from the very lower smaller buds and after 4 weeks they kick ass. So if I need to I could cut this one on 6 weeks and my smoke should still be awesome. So I am watching her carefully.

As stated above the Hydrogen Peroxide works great. I have used the 12% from Rite Aid and it works well. Do not in any way, shape or form, underestimate PM. Take it out Gorge Bush style! I would treat with he H202 about 4 to 5 times every 3 days. After that I would still give light treatments once a week or every other week until you can no longer stand to spray your buds. I believe it is OK to spray the buds all the way through but don't know for sure. Look into Vaping Sulfur. I just finished up with a grow and had PM all the way through. I tried many things and the H202 worked the best. I am going to vaporize some sulfur in my grow room just to help clean out the room and clean up the mother plants. Good luck to you and if you don't go melee style on the PM do keep a very close eye out.

To those that are using H202, are you diluting it with water? I have some 3%, is that strong enough? Been fighting PM daily but still can't defeat it using the milk/water method.

I found the answer to my question, 5ml of H202 per pint of water. I must add a 'holy farking shiat this stuff works!' to this thread. I have been spraying daily with milk/water for the past 2 months and the best I accomplished was slowing the spread, but didn't seem to do anything to eliminate it. One good spray/rub of H202/water/3 drops of dish soap seems to have solved my problem overnight. After months of struggling I was amazed at how well the H202 method worked. I was just about to resort to 'Eagle 20' if H202 didn't work, but now I don't have to. No ill effects on leaves or buds from using H202 either, just nice clean leaves now and no sign of PM anymore.

OK. Here is what has happened to me recently. The 12% peroxide I used seamed to screwed with my plants pretty bad. All seemed well until the net day. Most the leaves ended up looking like they pulled up brown water out of the soil. The leaves also curled up pretty bad. Some ended up looking like a ribbon on a gift. I was not sure if it did something via the leaves or if the drippings in the soil threw it off, but it screwed them up pretty bad. I flushed the soil with spring water and you could see the bubbly peroxide come up and then drain through the pot. The next day the plants looked better. The next time I watered I flushed again and after this time the plants were back on track but beat the F up. Dried up leaves with burnt crispy tips and edges(Not all). A few days after while trimming away the old dead parts I noticed some more freakin P.M. so this time I decided to vape some sulfur. I did this in the middle of the dark period yesterday. I vaped some sulfur for 15 minutes, let the fan blow it round, turned the fan off and continued vaping for another 15 minutes. I then turned on the fan and vent and cleared the room. After the room was clear I let it sit for about 1/2 hour, then repeated the process. They looked good last night but today they looked like this.

In the last picture you can see the damage done by the peroxide. Some was was not as bad and some was worse. Do you think the discoloration was caused by the sulfur?

Sorry, No RH or PH info!

Thank you for any info.

Without knowing your R/H a sulfur burn is still a question mark. If your higher then about 45% a sulfur burn will kill of anything it comes in contact with. However if your room is that bad then your whole living quarters is filled with spores also. What I think is needed is a couple of good de-humidifiers, one for your room and one for your house. The browning on the top leaves tells me they were covered with pm and the sulfur also burned the affected cells of the plant. Get your humidity in check asap. Most people don't realize that R/H is just as important when the lights are out, so keeping the de-humidifier running 24/7 is the way to go. Guys/Gals...all these tricks and techniques are band aides, PM should be your first sign of an issues arising in your garden with moisture and if dealt with correctly band aides won't be needed. Its one of the easiest fixes in an indoor garden, using a de-humidifier and running no higher than 45-50% at all Times in flower. Good Luck

If the RH goes above 45%? Why, what happens? I live in the desert and the humidity usually low, today is 43%. It has been high lately. Last night a few hours after the vaping I did water. I do have a vent fan but I can only imagine that the humidity shot up after watering. I am pretty sure the RH was high last night. I will be getting a RH meter soon. I don't think the brown color is the P.M. only because the plants hardly had any and most the plants have the coloration in the same spots. But then again, I don't know. Thank you thank you.

I've never heard of it being over 45% as an issue. But that would make sense, I always keep my flowering room around 40%, and my parents kept theres at 50%, and they had bad burns with a sulfur vaporizer. Certainly something I'll do my homework on, once I'm done with math homework, lol. But it does look like burning from sulfur, but it sure looks really bad for an hour. An hour is never necessary for a sulfur vaporizer, the first 15-30 minutes was plenty.

But it's true, Brotherdoses, if you do not invest in controlling your environment you aren't going to be able to prevent or control your PM issues. Environmental controls are more important than buying new lights. No joke dude, a digital inside/outside thermometer/hygrometer is only like 15 bucks.

But that burnt growth you got going on is pretty intense there. The worst I ever got from a sulfur vaporizer was some purple flowers and some of those cringled leaves you got. The pattern on the leaves reminds me of drying cracked earth.

Many of you are more experienced than me, but as soon as I heard "little white spots that don't wipe off", I was thinking spider mites. One of your pics looks exactly like what you would expect to see in an early invasion. I don't doubt that powdery mildew could be responsible for the other symptoms that you describe, but it's possible that you may have more than one problem. Do you have access to a microscope?

Shit yea! Fuck yea! New lights? I cant afford those. LOL. I will defiantly get a RH meter and a Ph meter before I go into the vegging of my next round. I am not even going to worry about a "nice" room for my clones until I do get this environment shit straight. I need a Rh meter for drying too.

I checked out some other threads and pages with info on vaping sulfur. The info I gathered from various sites stated from 1 to 3 hours for treatment. GOD DAMN! 3 hours would have killed anything in there. Obviously for a house or something. Shit, I guess I know now. Anyways, next investment will be a few things for environment control. No doubt!

FNG. No spider mites. The white dots are from a old White Flys.
