Pots vs Ground

well i will be GG this year and i dont know if i should grow the plants in a pot for their whole life or in the ground for their whole life... in the woods there are only a couple different plants.. theres trees, Ice Plants, Grass, and some purple flowers.. this canyon doesnt have any animals because its so close to the freeway and animals hate all the noise.. even though every now and then i see a possum.. now i plan on planting in the middle of some grass... would it be better to grow in a bucket or in the ground? will my plants get bigger in the ground?

growing in the ground will allow the root base to increase unstopped. larger root base means the plant can support more growth top side. which means more yield

I've seen people til a 4' deep hole 4' feet wide a back fill it with amended soil and get huge plants. Then I've seen the same plants straight in the ground with the plants turning out half the size.
