Possible accidental pollination! Oh crap!!

So I was setting up the new light setup for 3 potted plants and I moved them in to a closet so that I could turn lights on and work. The plants are about 2wks into 12/12 and are looking good with lots of bud sites... Anyway, I'm such a damn idiot, I moved the plants in to a closet that had a flowering male in it (I forgot...) FUCK! A few minutes later I realized my pure stupidity and ran in to grab them out... I sprayed them down real well with distilled water, hoping that if any pollen did make it's way on to the pistils that the water will wash the pollen off and/or render it sterile.

So, what do you guys think my odds are here? The closet has no active air circulation... So, ya I don't know. Hoping I'm not fucked here.

nice, I wanted a few seeds anyway lol. Any pistils that were pollinated should die off in a few days now, right?

I can tell you from experience and a WELL-LIT room that the worst thing you can do is move the male plant. Even if you hold it with the steady hands of a surgeon from the base, it only vibrates up to the tip end of the plant. And if you've ever seen pollen fall off a plant, you'll realize it doesn't just fall to the ground.

Hold some pollen between your fingers under a light bulb and rub your fingers together.......THAT SHIT FLOATS AND FLIES HORIZONTALLY! Mother nature knew what she was doing with that pollen, because it does not just go with the wind...it fucking moves around like it was possessed with anti-gravity.

I am only telling you this because you are obviously going to have to get that male plant out of there...and picking it up with the slightest care will not prevent the tip ends of the leaves from vibrating. Pollen will find a way, it never fails.

Get those females out of your room while you sterilize it. Pollen is a fucking possessed demon. That shit will find a way to get to at least one pistil and give you one seed man. I speak from experience.

Dude, chill lol. I'm growing the male plant isolated from other plants. I was a dumb fuck and stuck the female plants in there so I could do a quick job and since the cfl on the male plant was off, I totally forgot that the plant was in there :(

The females were only in there for maybe 5 minutes before I realized my mistake and made other provisions for them. As soon as I took them out I sprayed them down, soaked them, sprayed the bud sites real well, then stuck them in a pantry.

I've sprayed the male plant down a few times to sterilize any pollen that was sitting on the leaves. I've seen the flowers drop their pollen and it falls straight down... Idk, there is only a few dozen calyx's on each bud site, so even if they turn in to seeds it will not ruin a whole crop. I wanted to get some seeds anywho.

Geez Louise, it's seeds, not cyanide capsules. :) If you wanted a few seeds this might be your chance. FWIW, the best pot I've ever had in my life was loaded with seeds.

Yea, I have grown many males and the pollen falls straight down to the fan leaf below it because there is no air flow. What you don't realize is that the pollen, ONCE STIRRED UP, FLOWS STRAIGHT UP. Pollen falls down with no airflow. BUt do what I said and hold some pollen on your fingertip under a bright light, that shit floats UP. NOT DOWN. Just trying to help bro. Pollen is stagnant until you start fucking around and moving things.

That shit floats mid-air, I promise you. 21 years experience right here.

I would gladly pay $50 each for those, but they were from the early 70's. I might not remember 99% of my life from those years but I will never forget Acapulco Gold and Colombian Gold. OMG!!!

Dude, beat your drum elsewhere. My question is no where near "How does pollen float around?". I get the fact that pollen is extremely light and floats the fuck around.

Thanks, Potpimp. I'm more curious as to if spraying the pistils down will help reduce any possible pollination.

He's just trying to help bro. Why not forget spraying it down and put that bitch in the shower and let er rip?

I know he's trying to "help" but telling me things I already know that have little to do with my specific question is annoying and it's just post whoring.

Anyway, only time will tell and I'll update this post in a little bit to let anyone curious know if I end up with accidental seeds or not.

How long does it take for a seed to develop and become viable? I put a male Afghani #1 in my flower room of Skunk #1 in order to get it close to blooming - I intended to pull it out just before the sacs began to open. Well last night I found 1 single pollen sac that had erupted. The pollen probably didn't fly too far as the male was blocked from the fan reasonably well. Anyways, the Skunk #1 is on day #67 of 12/12 and is still growing slow - I still see no signs of amber trichomes. Most of the pistils are orange but their are still plenty of white pistils left. If a few small buds end up pollinated I wouldn't mind leaving them on the plant and harvesting seeds later - I was planning on crossing these two strains eventually anyways. So how many days many days minimum does a seed take to mature to a nice dark bean - or does it take a complete flower cycle?
