Portable ac

Do portable a.c units really work okay? I have exhaust and intake fan. I can't afford a big split unit and such and I don't know how to even install them. Hoping to spend 600 bucks max on portable...thanks

I won't be using all of it. But it's about 15x15 as a guess. Lots of fans. Exhaust and intake and carbon filt3r. I'm thinking about 4000 watts of lights opposed to the 2000 I had elsewhere

What type of lighting do you have? Got a window in the room?

Have you ran the room without plants to see how much cooling you’ll need? Are you going to block out parts of the space that aren’t utilized?

Those are good questions. Thanks. That is a super good point. Step number one I should run the lights when I get them and see. And I do plan on framing enclosures. The cloning room formerly the main room is framed already.

I would personally just save that $600 and put it towards a mini split. I tried to get by with a portable and large window unit and on the hottest days my grow couldn’t handle it even running my lights through the night. I ended up getting a mini split anyways because it could handle a lot more btu and it runs more efficient than both of my other ACs together. I got my split plus the install for close to $2000 which is a nice chunk of change I agree but at the end of the day it gives me a lot more efficiency and flexibility with my grow. I know it’s a hard bullet to bite though.

Make sure you get a dual hose if you go with a portable. Single hose will pull the smell right out the window. Ideal Air has a quick disconnect minisplit that is simple to install. Took me an hour and a half to reinstall from one room to another.

Glad I searched before creating another thread. I have an uninsulated upstairs office in my garage. Was thinking of framing out a room from that space of about 12x8x8 up against an existing window and using 2” foam board on the exterior and plain ol panda film on the inside. I have an 8500btu window unit non heat pump I’m planning on using but would I need to apply carbon filters in the return to combat smell or no? Stealth is key. The exhaust would be a 6” 440cfm in-line fan running to the roof vent directly above that space. 1000w hps for lighting.

If temps get too cold since we’re gonna be into winter mid grow i was just gonna run a portable space heater through a temp controller.
