check out the ones at wal mart and meijer. Make sure you get one that is strong enough. It has to have enough BTU in order to cool the room enough and cycle off when it reaches the right temp. if it dosnt cycle off you will have problems with the unit.

GrowTech

stays relevant.
Very few are quiet... Part of the process of how they work involves a lot of noise, just the reality of it. I have an everstar that is nearly impossible to hear exhaust-side by in the grow room, you know it's running.

Well I have a mini split. It is almost dead silent at the outdoor unit and once the door closes, you can't hearths inside unit. The portable a/c's I looked into were nowhere near that quiet.

My biggest piece of advice when buying a stand alone A/C is to get one with a 24 hour timer built in to it.

I bought one with a 12 hour timer but I figured "no big deal, I'll plug it into the power strip attached to my timer".... WRONG! What happens is when the timer shuts down the power to the power strip the A/C will shut off.... but it won't come back on when the timer starts at the next cycle. The damn thing has to be manually turned on.... which is a problem if you aren't going to be there to turn it on. I'm sure it's a safety thing.... but it sucks because I travel a lot for work and am often not here to turn it on.

So.... I'd suggest getting one with the 24 hour programmable timer built in. That way you plug it into the wall (not your timer) and set it when to turn on and off.

Good advice, and also why I went with a mini split. I tried so hard to find a portable with mechanical controls or auto restart. Most do not, and I could find none personaly. If a power outage occurs you may be without a/c when it returns so plan accordingly. A high temp shut off would be ideal for this though you'll see a drop in production or worse if it goes unchecked a while
