Popcorn buds?

What do you guys / gals do with your popcorn buds at the middle of the plant and lower?

I've seen some people just cut them off with about a week to go.

I've also heard people cut the top mature buds off first, then wait and let the little ones mature. Then cut those off about a week later. Kind of a 2 phase harvest.

FYI : 2- Nirvana Bubbleicious day 61 of flower
1000w HID + 160w CFL in shaded areas.
Coco coir only, 5 gallon pots

All the big tops (except the colas) are 20% amber, so they're basically ready. The colas are busting out new white hairs still, and are basically clear to milky, no amber.

Below is pic of the little buds, and one of the whole 5.5 footer.

Thanks peeps!

I cut of some of the lower ones, like right next to the main stem, and a few more off the lowest branches. that makes the top buds bigger because the plant doesn't take more time to make little dinky buds on the bottom (I still leave buds down there though, I trim around 20% or so, maybe less) and then do what you said, take the top buds when they are finished and let the little guys catch up

i dont cut shit! except if its really scraggly/airy. i like my dense popcorn buds for blunts/joints/bongs what have you. i smoke them 1st and save my colas for afterwards. and if i got an abundance of popcorn buds, i turn them into hash! i love hash oil, but making it is a pain in the ass for me. so i use my bubble bags and dry ice! shake gently over a giant surface, making sure to seperate the blonde from the green. press in to gram cakes and enjoy! my favorite thing to do @ the end of the day is pack a fat ass pipe with multiple layers of hash and weed! mmm good!

Stuff on the bottom of my plants, was always as good as the stuff on top.. in fact I oft hit them with blues at the bottom towards the end, and I could argue it makes them more pungent and crystal than the ones on top.. but it might be my imagination.

But no, I take the best of the best (from all over the plant)_ and toss the rest down the disposal, bud and all (minus main stems).

Thanks guys! There are a lot of them down there! I have no idea how to even start making hash. So I might trim a few off of one plant and not the other.
A little experiment if you will...

buds are buds! people spend so much time trying to get an impressive top cola and i don't know if it's even worth it. are the tops really that much better? i like popcorn buds. nice and easy to put in your bowl.

Good example of trimming sucker branches, and getting rid of pop corn buds.
They take away plant resources from high producing flower cluster.

If you top then train, those smaller branches containing "popcorn" buds will become main branches as shown in the picture.. so technically theyre not gone just "converted"

Its a little late to do anything this run but for next time here is a suggestion...Weigh what you get off of this girl with the popcorn legs, on the next girl clean the lower branched off up to the main head of each branch that will not be even with the canopy. Once you flower also remove the inner shoots on the upper branches. You will see this technique will lower the amount of popcorn and increase the overall size of the remaining buds. Now weigh you outcome of the second and compare, I think your going to be pleasantly surprised. JAS

next time. those very lower stems. you know will only make pop corn buds, you should trim off the entire branch. because you know it will only make pop corn buds, and when you cut it off the plant will not waste energy on small buds but make the top ones huge, this is the way you need to do it. but for now you have pop corn buds, I would trim them if possible and use, or just throw then into the trim pile

for future reference, if you top (remove entire top section of plant and 2 lowest branches, leaving only 4 branches total) and LST the remaining 4 branches to develop multiple main colas like the pic above, you should be fine

i actually agree with you 333maxwell ive noticed more trichome development on my lower buds.
i wonder if its from being shaded from the top. light does degrade thc to an extent..

:leaf:remember it all "falls from the bud" and i sometime harvest time in small buds and leave out ALL the stems i can, therefore having nothing but SMOKE no MESS at the end :) just take out bag , grind and pack! GOOOD luck, you did awesome for your first grow, and making hash isnt as hard as it sounds! for years i thought it was over my head, its really not try checking some youtube videos out:) ONE LOVE! :leaf:

Not to mention, in my small space, when the buds start getting too big at the end, it worries me. I do the best I can to vent and keep air moving, but small space full of plant it is hard to keep it going. Big buds, low light, humid areas mean a great potential for bud rot at the very end, I have ran into over the years time and time again. So what to do.. well, I find encouraging smaller
buds to get bigger, and bigger buds to get less attention it kind of evens things.. I am not looking for monster colas, I am looking for good and plentiful colas, and one bout of bud rot can wipe out that 'plentiful' thing right out.. going for the 'biggest bud' for the sake of having the biggest bud always turned out wrong for me..

Whatever that is worth.,. and it's just my environment, this would not be my commercial advice (not that I have any) or large scale advice particularly.. but rather my lower light, packed room advice.. a few huge buds vs a lot of medium sized buds.. I'll take the later any day.
