It sucks ass and is infuriating, it is a very long road to fix and will never get done. We made a bunch of dumb fucking people by kneecapping education, look at where we are now. Half the country will listen to some dipshit in their truck rather than an expert in the field. It's how we wind up with people complaining about inflation but demanding we protect the people that took all the money. We are lacking basic reasoning abilities.

A lot of people do very little thinking and are not good at it, they operate off emotion and react. The standard formula is to enrage to engage, anger shuts the brain down even more and narrows the focus. So, spin them a yarn sure to enrage and then feed them the "cause" of the problem and all of their problems. Most people hate change, change causes suffering, so promise to stop change and even reverse the clock to a past seen with rose colored glasses.

There is some hope, many countries and some US states are offering "media awareness" courses, NJ is planning it. This can help kids to pick out the bullshit from the real online and tell them about the dangers of social media etc. When coupled with programs like mindful schools for emotional/social education, it can have a profound impact on the next generation.

I would expect the republicans to be hostile to both ideas and continue to burn and ban books, but they don't run all states and school districts. You could say mindful schools are all about teaching kids to be "woke" and would have the biggest negative impact on republicans, it's about teaching emotional skills and developing a mindful attentive attitude.
