Oh really.

When exactly was that?
1st Sept 1939 it started.
“World War II,” on the other hand, first appeared in print all the way back in February 1919, when a Manchester Guardian article used the term"

“The constant refrain we hear from cops every time they kill an unarmed Black person is, ‘They should have complied with commands,’ because as long as you comply, things will supposedly go well, but that only seems to work one way. When officers are asked to follow simple rules or face consequences, a not insignificant amount of them flip their s***.”

“If an officer wants to quit over this, f***ing let them,”

Last night on John Oliver.

Bravo.
Agreed, if they are so brainwashed that they are afraid of a safe and very effective shot, maybe it is best to not have them running around with a badge and a gun.

Also, there is no good reason waste all that money on them getting sick leave and death benefits when they catch the Corona virus while not taking precautions.

That is leftover Eurocentrism. The Sino-Japanese conflict that started in 1937 was fierce and brutal, and should be counted. I imagine the correct date will slowly make it into the texts.

Counter culture is alive and well. I suppose some could argue that the first Sino war of 1894 was the start of WW2

Japan invaded Korea and China, they were vicious and murderous military dictatorship. We didn't think supporting Japan's expansionist policies were in our best interest. So we cut off US shipments of steel to them. Makes sense to me. Does that upset you? Did we not have the right to do that?

The "beginning of WW2" as you cite was the start of a war in Europe.

The US has plenty of guilt. We can go back to the wars that Taft, Teddy Roosevelt and McKinley conducted to expand US power in the world. They were vile. Franklin Roosevelt was as racist as they come. His policies reflected that. Expecially in the Americas.

But no country will sit idly by after they have been attacked. Not in 1941 and not in 2001. Go fish somewhere else.

But since we are talking world war, my figure of merit is 1937 July 7, the official start of the Japanese invasion. Eurocentrics ignore that and point to Poland. Pearl Harbor happened around the middle of the war’s duration by this criterion.
The starting date of WW2 is not interesting to me.

The context of my post was in response to Luke's strange theory that the US started WW2 by mistreating Japan.

I imagine Japanese historians can be found to agree with that.

I look to what happened in 1933 in Germany as leading to the European/African conflict.

What made Pearl important was the unification of the two fronts, which was assured by the rest of the Axis (esp. the Reich) declaring war on the USA.

I think involving the USA in how the war started is fruitless. But once the great dozing beast was directly attacked, this nation became instrumental in the outcome in both theaters.

Its one we all know. we all learnt it in school. sept 1939- tis on all the war memorials and everything.

Ummm what?
I have no idea how you came up with that one...lol

To be crystal clear i never said or theorised that America started WW2 or Japan for that matter.

"On September 1, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland from the west; two days later, France and Britain declared war on Germany, beginning World War II. On September 17, Soviet troops invaded Poland from the east. "

Why would it upset me? Of cause you do but actions have consequences and when talking history they get spoken about. Not sure why your so defensive about it for. Not sure why you believe that WW2 didn't start in Sept 1939..Not sure why you think im fishing or what i could be fishing for. Strange comment.
or do you believe because every country in the world was not involved in WW2 that it then wasnt a World war? that has merit i spose.

I learned 1939 in school as well. But with some of my own reading, I believe that the war between China and Japan simply wasn’t counted for reasons that reduce to racism. When Germany invaded Poland, that mattered, in contrast to some unpleasantness between Asiatics. That last word is now a slur.
So I think it will ultimately credited, making WWII run from ‘37 to ‘45.

And its a decent discussion but in my mind it was just yet another Sino war and that argument attracts the comment then in your mind did WW2 start in 1894?
I live in the Australasia and Asiatic is not a racial slur here.

The previous world war ended in 1918.

I could try to include the Spanish Civil War, but that stayed a regional conflict. It was discontinuous with the later war, unlike the situation with Japan.

By what reasoning would I say World War 2 started in the 19th century? I ask about the active war, not about what historians argued about a point of no return.

Because in world history 1894 and 1937 is not very long at all (only 43 years) and they had simmering tensions in between. People often say that WW2 would not of happened if it wasn't for the reparations of WW1. And difference of 21 years from One to Two. Only 22 years difference.
