It depends on your insulation and where your grow is mate.
If you've got an external building or loft glowing away in the dead of night you may as well have a big sign on your door!

I dont think they would be that interested in 1 400w light.
i was gonna say, most of the true grow ops for money use several 1000 watt lights.. if they are doing a fly by and see one arc, i doubt they will be concerned about you.. one arc/lamp means you are probably growing veggies inside. remember lots of people actually grow legit shit indoors. strawberries, veggies, etc..

yeah several 1000 would be seen infared but a 400 would show real light wouldnt be investigated over that look more like a flood lamp or some shop lights

OP: Too much paranoia will get you busted, and not enough will too. Find a happy medium. And no, a 400 w light isn't gonna raise any eyebrows.

I searched it on google and found a story of one of those IR copters at work. They show pics of what they saw overhead the house is lit like crazy, they break down the doors and raid the house only to find out its some high up police cheifs house and he had shitty insulation... shows how much investigation they do to at least check their asses before hand.

Also, from some of my research, IR can only detect where light can pass thru so if you just have a good seal your one step closer then you have to keep the heat off the outside sealed surface... because the IR light can get in the room your grow room is in usually and detect the heat off the surface of the garden tent, cube, whatever.
