Its not the average amount of lumen per sqft its the total and read anywhere about enough light for indoor gardning and there going to tell you 2,000 to 3,000 lumen per sqft. 3,000 is no where near excesive. The amount of lumens the sun produces does very however it can be higher than 100,000 lumen per sq meter which is more than 9,000 lumen per sqft.
Your math doesnt make sence to me and is confuseing considering that those 4 shop lights are not in the same square footage. Is it possible to explain your math better? Lets try not to confuse this guy because he seems confused enough running a 250w switchable ballast yet is still running the MH in flowering.
This is the light set up as you can see it's enought to grow dope.
It is 4 bulbs each bulb is a 20 watt T-12 flow @ 900 lumans. It say this on the package so we know this is correct.
The grow area is 12" x 24" or 2 sq ft.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the formula:
sq rt (light 1^2 + light 2^2 + light 3^2 + light 4^2) = lumans of 4 light bulbs
to solve:
900 x 900 = 180000
we have 4 bulbs add 4 time or 4x so
18000 x 4 =2340000
now take the sq rt of that # = 1800
----------------------------------------------------------------
As for area we have 2 sq ft so
1800 / 2 = 900 luman per sq ft.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Now work with cfl's and aroun 1650ish (from memeroy) it will take 4 to double the out put.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Think this way 1 dim. = distance.
to move you pawn tw squars on a chess bord will take 2 turns moving 1 per turn.
Distannce is 1 dim. so just add them up (most thing we want to add are this way)
Area is distance in two direction "Distance A" x "Distance B" so on the same chest board you have 1 light and it can light up an area of 2 squarse long by 2 squares wide how many squares is that.
Now if I wold like to light up double the space an area of 4 square x 4 squares how many lights?
The answer is 4 Each light can light up 4 square and we have 16 that needs light.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
If that does not help than you will need to look it up your self.
