Okay long before this idea ever came to me I had already watch probly the same how to grow vids as everyone eles.. Well now I really think its about time I grow my own.. I have already germinated two seeds they are now in two cups full of just plain potting soil.. with a correct amount of water I checked to make sure.. I have them sitting in a window seal until tomorrow.. I'm going to buy two 400watt HID and two 400watt HPS.. I was wondering should I mix the lights or just use a certain type to start with? how far from the plants do they need to be? I have fans and a heat lamp.. I do not know what I will do about humidy is it important enought that I need to have one or could I do without? also I should add im not trying to grow anything crazy.. just some seeds I got from one of my bags.. I figured I should get it a practice try before I try my danK ones.. any info would be greatly helpful..

Personally I wouldn't start w/ so much dang light. I think you might just run into a huge headache down the line. I'd read up some more. :) Knowledge never killed anyone :)

EDIT: Know that I think about the "knowledge never killed anyone" thing. It probably has, but in this case it won't.

Wow, definitely do some more research. HPS lights fall under the HID category along with MH and a few others.

You're talking about 1600 watts of light for 2 plants? And you didn't even realize you needed ballasts to run those? Actually, for 4 400w lights, you're going to need 4 400w ballasts. Do you know how much heat those lights are going to produce?

Definitely do a LOT more research. And if you're only looking for a couple of plants at a time, I wouldn't even consider a SINGLE 400w light, let alone 4 of the things.

Unless it had to do w/ a marijuana grow op going up in flames due to too much lighting. I can't see why this would matter. BTW I haven't heard of it :)

OK.. All that light is definately too much... your just starting out.. so go get a 400 watt hps and maybe a couple good cfl's just to veg the plants a lil.. Id say start out with a cfl per plant, you can keep these close to the plant,,,,real close and the plants will love it..keeping the lights close will tighten the space between the leaf branches (nodes)..veg untill you have about 12 inches of growth (this will give the plant time to show sex) @ this time, you would then place them under your hps light.. for 2 plants 1 hid 400 hps light would be plenty.. ventilation is a must...dont let any1 say otherwise..and read this.. you will be glad you did...it will answer everything you will ask..
good luck and happy gardening..:joint: check me out and subscribe....

a single hps only requires 1 ballast.. therefor saving you a sh*t load of money... buy another ..say about...your 3rd grow.. along wih massive ventilation ..always remember VENTILATION MATTERS... without it can bring you lots of anger and frustration when your babies just dont look right!!! get some flexi vent..that foil-looking stretch tube.. like the one on the back of a clothes dryer..place one end in a window and connect that to an inline duct fan.. then llead that to your plants..this air should cool your plants and bring in fresh air from outside.. If you want ask.. and il post and exterior pic of my hydro hut and the way i setup my ventilation.. it really is easy...just need the willingness to learn and some good reading skills.
