Please can I get good advice

Hi I am in my fifth week of flower using coco hydro60/40 mix with Cana line nutes I really need an experienced growers advice as it is my 1st grow, firstly , when I add cannas recommend dose of nutes it always burns my ladies even when i try 3/4 of there recommended dose . So I have had to keep my ppm at a total of 500-600 max and now that I am adding pk for a week I have a total of 700ppm for the first day yesterday and see no burns yet . I am in 5 gal pots and water daily 3-4 litres each , I have stopped the rhizoctonic. My second problem is I have thick bushes with many many tops and I have 3 X 600w hps 1 X 450 viperspectra led and 1x 600w viperspectra led. I want to know whether to trim a lot of fan leaves off to make space for light or will this effect the bud size etc, I can say that the ladies under the majority of the led are frosty way more than hps. My last problem is the way a few of my branches have shot way past the canopy , wayyyy past with huge bud developing , the rest of the same plant has to be further from the light now because I do not want to super crop at this point five weeks in .

Put a light shining under them, or use a scrog to make a flat even canopy.


Removing a few leafs here and tgere isnt a problem, but removing them to expose the under buds ends up being too much imo.

Its better to train the plant to expose the buds than cut the plant to expose the buds.

Ive used led panels under plants and done vertical cooltubes to solve the same issue.

Imo the best is a scrog and vert cooltubes under canopy level with lights hanging overtop also.

If you want a good read, ive been going over : Marijuana Botany, an advanced study: the propagation and breeding of distinctive cannabis.

Its a good book, lots of good general information and techniques.

Among the info it contains, is a warning to not remove leaf mass. I could photo the page for ya, but figure if your interested the book is worth owning for the range it covers.

I'd just remove a bunch of leaves that are blocking light to the lower areas. When I defoliate I try not to remove a ton of leaves at once...I usually spread it out over a few days. I tend to remove any leaf that is touching another leaf or another stalk.

growweedeasy has a great article on defoliation. It's important to understand when, and when not to remove leafs..and for what reasons.

it doesnt work quite like that. if you want more light penetration buy more lights, you dont cut more leaves.
if you want the most of your plant surround it with lights.
If you want the most of your lights surround them with plants.

buds will grow just fine even if you dont think so. my 1ooo watt lights penetrate about 20 inches.
the ones in that area even covered by other leaves get fat and tasty too. You could train them like multi colas for a max
exposure grow, or hang lights without reflectors too. Vertical grows are interesting also, take a look. but never, ever cut a healthy leaf, its just cruel

Good fans that gently move the plant without blowing the shit out of it will help penetration of light to lower bud sites.
Personally I don't believe in defoliating, you can bend or fold a leaf if you like.
TBH I don't see your canopy been too much of a problem. You will learn to control them to be more even next time.
If your seeing nute burn use the light feeding on the canna schedule, also find out if your using hard or soft water, if its hard you want less nutes anyway. Looking at your pics they don't look bad at all. Some strains can take a real good feed and others burn easily.

Best not to remove any leaves in this situation in my opinion.

You asked how to get the canopy even and lower from the lights.

You can bend the branches and tie them down with bamboo stakes and soft tie. Or just supercrop them. Which is pinching the stem until it squished and then fold the branch down level with the canopy.

Search for LST and supercropping plenty of pics out there.

No bodys even brought up leaf tucking?

Thats what I do. Any big fat fan leaves that get in the way I just gently tuck it up under the branch its blocking or another fan leaf. No cutting and you can open up your plant with minimal work. You may have to go in and adjust them after a bit but who doesnt enjoy being with the babys?!?! Lol

It is suggested in the post right above yours.

I don't see how hat helps. Buds in my room get huge and frosty with a fan leaf right over them. It's the leaf that collects light and grows the bud.

It also tends to make condensation and water stand on leaves that overlap.

Leaves don't block light. They use them.

Take a look around. farmers are not out cutting leaves from their various crops.

Just leave them be.

Defoliation works wmgreat if you know when and how to do it. If I were you though i would just ride it out any mistakes at this point will just hurt your yield.
