Philips is only promoting LED for multi layer and as interlight (extra light inbetween the rows), not as primary source of light in a greenhouse. Those experiments have not been very successful so far. In scientific research the trending topics are about full spectrum lighting, the color green and the effects of UV. It is nice to see that what Gavita has been promoting for about 3 years now does get more scientific backing. Many research institutes and universities have found their way to Gavita for plasma lighting. The best renown breeders use plasma light. Even algae grow researchers use plasma light at he moment.

Flowery Field replaced their MH lamps for plasma. After the first tests they are in the process of replacing all their MH lights. The have improved quality and production by about 40-50%.
 
i am having hard time with these plasmas. Is there tricks to them. Also guy in lahydroponocs told me they are not meant for growing. I'm hoping he's an idiot and not me for believing you guys.
 
I recently bought a iunu plasma light and I've only rooted my clones. I'm doing plasma from clone to flower. The clones rooted in 7 days. Very vigorous root growth. I'll try to keep people up to date with my progress.

I contacted a iunu rep through their website and the people are pretty knowledgeable about there competitors and their technology. Not your run of the mill lighting company. They have growers on staff that seem to know what they're doing. If you're interested, I would just get in contact with them.

Looks like you want to run them alongside HPS thouies, either SE or DE. They don't make enough red on their own.

But it isn't perfect, either. And that's a lot of coin for just 300-500W. And oh yeah... how come no one has brought up how efficient they are yet? My guess is that they're another interesting technological dead end. COB LED is better than this tech, too: in terms of flexibility spectrum output, mounting options AND efficiency.

If I'm incorrect, let's see some data porn.

You should re-read the gavita rep's posts, he's spot on...........at less than half the efficiency of a DE hps(ppf/w), mh plasma(s) are not a hid swap....................EVER, even with a slightly better spec.

Sulfur plasma tech seems to have stalled too............cobs are in a different league then both now imo

I understand that you are more comfortable with the technology that you're familiar with (apparently that's COB LEDs), but considering how complicated a cannabis plant is and how subtle the details of an efficient lighting spectrum are, I think it is unfair of you to dismiss the tech based on output/wattage measurements. I'm assuming you haven't even tried the iunu fixture. It sounds like you have questions about plasma, and I'm not an expert. If you're really curious about the tech, I would suggest contacting the manufacture, rather that posting on forums.

LED certainly has its merits and I think strategic usage of LEDs can be very advantageous, but to make blanket statements about one technology being superior is every way is, imo, a little short sited.

It sounds like iunu is working hard to look at more energy efficient fixtures, with better spectrum, that are also made locally. I encourage this endeavor and I don't find your comments to be productive. It seems obvious that you've made up your minds about the technology you prefer.
