Plants 6 days into Veg, Not Growing!

Hey fellow RIU'ers,

I just recently started growing some Black Widow and White Berry (from seed) in my homemade grow cab that is 4x4x2.5. I also made my own soil which consists of:

- 30% potting soil
- 10% top soil
- 40% perlite
- 20% compared manure

What's in the cab?

1 - 400w hps
1 - 120cfm bath fan (at top of cab)
1 - 30" x 6" Return Air Grille
1 - fan blowing on the plants
Walls painted flat white
Temp is on average, 85 degrees

The problem I am having is that the plants aren't growing very fast. Both White Berry plants are about 1-1.5 inches tall, showing their first set of tiny leaves. All I can say is that the plants don't look like they're as big as they should be!

The Black Widow has stretched quite a bit (approx. 3-4" tall) but the leaves haven't even fully broke out of the seed casing.

I know that my cab is still too hot and am wondering if this is the reason why the plants are growing as fast as they should be. Could it also be caused by the HPS.

Please, does anyone have ANY advice or suggestions?

Thanks!

85 degrees won't cause super stunted growth in seedlings.

I suggest gently removing the seed casing from the plant that still has it on. There is no guarantee that it will be able to do that on its own.

How big are your containers? Its quite possible that the plants are still sending out roots into the medium, which will stunt growth for a few days. It can happen when you transplant into bigger containers too. The good news is that after a few days of stunted growth the plant will show massive growth in a short time.

Okay, I will give the one plant a day or 2 to rid itself of the casing, if not I will try to do it myself.

My containers are a decent size (6" diameter x 6" deep approx.)

Thanks for your help!

Your from seed?
Yes, they are grown from seed. Thanks!

If there from seed, no worries. When the plant gets into the veg stage, she will take off and grow fast. Roots are being established now, so give her time.

I would recommend fluorescent lighting for vegging. Save yourself some $$$ on energy bills AND lower that temperature.

How many plants are you growing in this setup?

Its only been 6 days dude.

Growing takes time and patience, and of course lots of lovin care.

Just be quiet and let them do their thing.

I just found this reposted by Bonzi Lighthouse on a similar thread-

I am actually planning on doing a SOG in the Flowering cab and plan to have between 24-40 plants. What I am doing right now is building the Mum/Clone cab but I got impatient and am currently growing 4 Mum's (Bonzai Style) in my Flowering Cab whilst I build the Mum/Clone Cab.

I plan on using around 6 - 40W CFL (150w Equiv. EACH) for the Mum's and just a couple of 23W CFL for the clones.

If you have any suggestions or concerns please, do tell!

That's what I figured but I was just getting worried because of the temp in the cab. I also think the last time I grew from seed (bag seed) they seemed to grow faster. I think I'm just being paranoid though, lol.
