Hi, this is my first grow and I'm learning a lot through trial and error, and I've made ALOT of mistakes but I'm still trying to salvage my grow. They are 5 weeks old (and small) and for about 2 weeks the leaves have been turning yellow from the bottom of the plant upwards, and some leaves have brown spots that look almost like burns. Some plants have lost one or two sets of leaves. Here's what I can tell you about the situation:

I started them in moisture control soil (big mistake) and couldn't water them for the first week and a half because they didn't dry out. At about 2 and a half weeks I replanted them in a mixture of 30% perlite and miracle grow garden vegetable soil. Since then I can water every couple days.

I'm not sure why this is happening. It could just be that it's time to transplant them to a bigger container. They are in cups right now and will be put in 2 gallon buckets. I was thinking maybe the spots of the leaves are from water on the leaves being burned by the lights? Or maybe it's a nute problem? I haven't used any nutes, the only source is from the soil I used, and I don't re-use the water runoff.

There are 8 plants under 3 - 2,700k cfl's and 3 - 5,600k cfl's and they sit in a sunny window, and I keep the lights on 24 hours. The lights are 2-6 inches above. I have a box fan blowing on low towards them. In a few days I will be moving them into a closet with the same lights, plus a few more bulbs and one generic flourescent grow light.

Any input or advice based on your knowledge and experience would be greatly helpful... I can't stand to lose any more leaves!

looks like they're hungry for nuits. miracle grow is probably one of the worst things to plant cannabis in. I'd recommend you transplant into:
a) a soil infused with nuits MADE for cannabis like fox farm or what have you
b) transplant into compost and grow that shit natural (best tasting option)
c) use liquid nutrient fertilizers and hand feed those girls

Hi, it is mobile deficiency. Nitrogen and potassium as well as cal/mag. I would start new seeds, but this time you need to invest some money in soil and nutrients.
Go for Canna professional plus soil (make sure it is professional plus, not just professional)
Nutrients - IONIC set (Grow, bloom, PK boost) + formulex and plant magic (cal/mag)
Don't bother germinating in paper towel, put seed strait in dirt. Check your tap water PPM. If it is below 250, then adjust it with cal/mag. After it is sprouted, wait till your soil is dry at least 1 inch down. And use formulex half the recommended amount (with cal/mag as described above). Next watering full amount formulex + cal/mag. Once your plants have 4-5 sets of leaves, start using Ionic grow. Than just folow the instruction of IONIC nuts, when you buy set, you should get an IONIC scheduled, or you can download it on-line.
Just keep your PH at 6.5 from start to finish, and you will have healthy plants. Hope that helps

Just opinion, looks like to me that when the leaves are drooping, they need water. If they already have water and that is why your soil looks so wet, then they need proper ph between 5.5 and 6.2 will be fine. They also seem to have a bit of stretch going on. I would add a little more media in the cup and bring the plants closer to the light, bring the light closer to the plants or add more lights. Some cal mag probably wouldn't hurt w/ your next feeding. When you x-fer them into the 2gallons, try to mediate the shock, some rooting powder and maybe some micorrhizae to get some beneficial bacteria rolling. Just opinion.

Start at the most simple factor and work your way up, if you do too much at once you won't figure out what the problem is and might try expensive and extreme treatments for something as simple as forgetting to poke holes/drains in your cup. Your soil looks wet so let it dry out a bit, it does look like a nitrogen issue but it's hard to tell from a pic if it is nitrogen toxicity or a nitrogen deficiency. I would go to a sterile soil, one that doesn't have any nutrients added, any kind of soil brand wise. Try one plant first if you don't want to risk losing all of your babies, transplant into the new dry clean soil and let it leech the moisture from old soil. Keep a close eye on them from there look for improvement if there is none look at adding nitrogen half strength of recommended on the label. Post back with results.

The bulk of replies to my post has growers saying that it's a nute problem. Since this is mostly experimental for me, I decided to scrap them and start over. I'm trying to try the advice most widely recommended to me and I can let you all know what my results are with my new batch.

Also, what are your thoughts on watering with rainwater? I have a feeling my tapwater is pretty bad.

I decided to scrap my babes and start over, since they are so very damaged for being so young. The victims of my first try :-? If anybody cares, I'll be sure to update once I have been able to use your suggestions! :D

I suggest for your next run picking up a bottle or jug of calmag. Cause when you need it you need it. Also find the nutrient deficiency chart. It gets posted here regularly. Has pics of leaves and just about any issue you can come across. That's a good starting point. When watering water by weight. A good general rule is to water at 10 - 20% of your pot size. Same with feeding. So if you're in a 5 gallon pot then 1/2 to a full gallon will get you runoff. What I do is water or feed half my intended amount on all pots. Then wait a 10 minutes or so. Then finish it off. It gives the water time to spread and settle throughout the soil.
Now your question about rainwater. Yes you can water with that no problem. It works in nature right? If you think your tapwater is a prob then just pick up a test kit and check it out to be sure. Speaking of test kits you can find moisture probes for super cheap. Just push it into the soil and it gives you a reading on how moist the soil is. I found one for like 15$ and use it often. If the little pointer is in the red zone its time to give the girls a drink.

Cull the herd, meaning take the best plants, and repot into 3 gal pots. Use a good quality potting soil, any should do, and water with nothing added for 2 weeks. Start a mild nute solution and focus on only 4 plants to start with. You will probably kill most of them, so when you end up with that special one you will have learned a lot, which that should be about right for a newbie, or Uncle Ben. Your on the right track, and in the right place, so have a lot of fun. Peace
