Planning my first grow

I've been doing some reading around this site (particularly the CFL Tutorial) and what I am most interested in at the moment is growing with CFL's. It seems to be the most cost efficient since this is mostly an experiment for now. If I enjoy it I may try some bubbleponics later on.

I just wanted to check and see what you thought about this setup and what else I will need.

I will be growing in a closet underneath the stairs, it is probably 4 feet wide and 5 feet high. However I only want to use a portion of this because I am only interested in growing 1-2 plants at a time, just for my own personal use. I will start with 1 and see how much it produces. I would prefer for this plant to be shorter and full as opposed to being tall, 2' or so would be great if possible.

EDIT: On a side note, I will be attempting to grow with seeds from bought weed, as I am too chicken to order any "professional" ones offline since I don't have a "drop site."

The closet has white walls and a concrete floor, I will be covering the floor and both sides of a corner of the wall in aluminum foil, and then hanging aluminum foil on the other two sides of the plant to form a square area, around 2' by 2' I presume, but easily expandable to fit another plant later.

I will then be hanging 2 42 watt CFL's with a reflector above the plant and planting in Scott's potting soil.

List of Supplies
8 1/2" Clamp-Reflector + 2 way splitter
2x 42 watt (150 watt equivalent) CFL's
Scott's Moisture Guard Potting Soil

Are these supplies sufficient? I would like to get 1 warm white and 1 soft white bulb if I can find them, but Walmart/Lowe's didn't have any on their websites, those are the only good places near me, and possibly a home depot but I haven't looked there yet. Do I need a fan or anything else that I am forgetting? (If so, could you please suggest something from one of those stores.)

On another note, could you point me to a good thread for what chemicals I'll need, if any, preferably ones that can be bought at walmart/lowes.

Go with 65w CFL's instead and be sure to partition off any unused space so you don't waste any light, but watch your temps. Get a good thermometer if you don't already have one. A small desk fan would be good too.

i agree with the lights.. bigger and more would be better.. and dont use aluminum foil.. flat white paint would be better than using foil.. or try to get some mylar if possible.. or get that "mylar" like shiney wrapping paper.... a small circulation fan.. and a cheap thermostat...

get a fan on them or they'll be to weak to hold up the buds, your temps should be ok since ur using cfls. look into getting some molasses for budding as well real cheap way to increase weight

Foil is better than aluminized Mylar. Less chance of hot spots, as foil is significantly more diffuse, and is around 1 million times() as durable as paint.

If you dont have ventilation in there your plants will die in less then a week, so make sure you have some circulation going on.
Cheers
