Pitch Black during night 12/12

Hi, is it bad if I can't get pitch black during night for flowering, my plants are each a foot and 3 inches now and I'm thinking of budding. I have absolutely no spots available to me where light won't seep to them somehow. They live with me so imagine a plant in you living room, I could put it in the closet during night, the only light would be my T.V. seeping in the crack of the closet, its a sliding door type door so there are 4 cracks I can't cover and only one crack I can on the floor. I also have green light bulbs.

I would say make sure you use a blanket. That is what I do for my cabinet.

But I will say this. Plants in the wild are not subject to absolute darkness. You have the moon stars etc.

But use a blanket.

Moon is a reflection of the sun.... pure darkness for plants... light for human

Wait a minute ... plants flourish under the stars and moon. Plus, what about plants that are thriving along streets, freeways and highways? Do the flashing headlights kill them? Answer: No.

Just keep the light level down as much as possible. Total, pitch blackness was your question ... the answer is, its not necessary.

i just helped a friend build a flowering room out of duct board and foil tape we used two small fans for intake and exhaust and one oscilatting fan in the box, its over 3 x 3 tray and he is using a 400 watt hps, now he has two mommas veggin and clone area and flower room all in one walk in closet and the material didnt cost hardly anything.

Thanks that eased my mind a lot, I read a lot of old threads on needing complete darkness, but you're the first person to ever give me feedback proving otherwise. I doubt the little light that seeps into my closet from the T.V. at night will be enough to hurt them.

the moon and stars, as stated, are reflections... they are not light sources... they do not put off enough light to affect the growth of plants in anyway shape or form.... secondly... the street lamps are the same way.... using the law of diminishing returns a street lamp that is 15ft high will only put 666 lumens to the ground... thats a total of 666 lumens scattered over the entire foot print of the light... which is huge at the height... so even though we can see the light as humans, the light output isnt enough from that distance, again, to affect plants.... and thats even assuming that plant under the street light uses critical photoperiods to judge when to grow and when to flower... thats why the plants "under street lights, along highways and freeways" arent affected because 99% of those plants are annuals and dont need the correct photoperiod to grow or to flower... thats why lilacs and daisys and roses and shit flower the whole season.. it doesnt matter if they get 20 hours of light or 10 hours of light.. MARIJUANA however is one of those plants who do use photoperiods to grow.. as little as one foot candle of light on one square foot of a marijuana plant is enough to send it back into veg.. IM NOT SAYING THIS WILL HAPPEN.. ONLY THAT IT IS ENOUGH LIGHT THAT IT CAN DO THIS... you need total darkness for your plants during the flower cycle... a little light leak, even if it allows you to see the entire grow room, can screw up the plants that are near the leak... ie the amount of light from a lighter is enough light to affect the plants within a few feet of the lighter, but not enough to affect the plants in the back of the garden.. make sense??

So do T.V.'s even produce usuable lights to plants?

I think this "total darkness" thing started on these cannabis sites a long time ago as a stealth measure. Everyone talked about "light leaks" ... like in not letting light leak out so it could be seen coming out of a closet or cabinet. Then it got turned around so that light shouldn't leak INTO the closet or cabinet during the flowering cycle. Honestly, I don't have a totally dark cabinet and I've been growing for years in it with no problem ... and no hermies.

ok... total absolute 100% darkness is not needed.. if there is a light leak it will only affect the plants close to the leak itself... because the light leak is weak light and not enough to illuminate the entire garden in the way it would take to revert the entire garden... but.. it will cause small issues with the plants near the source... and not the entire plant... since 95% of the plant is dark, and only 5% is lit, its not enough to completely revert or even halfway revert the plant.. it is enough light though to make the plant produce a small amount of veg hormones, which are overcomed by the flowering hormones, and can slightly affect yield of said plant... i dont want anyone to think im saying youll get a room full of hermies.. or your plants will revert to vegging.. or anything like that... nor am i speaking against anyways experience... what i am saying tho is marijuana is a photo sensitive plant and a little light during the wrong time CAN fuck it up.. not everytime... not everyones plants.. just that it can... and to eliminate any possibilities of any unwanted side affects 100% darkness recommended... not that you cant flower with 100% darkness... just that 100% darkness is optimum during flowering...

Are you aiming for mediocre or half ass? Light leaks are just that: half assed. You can sleep with a night light too though you may not want to, plants can do with light leaks but if you want a happy plant let the damn thing sleep as soundly as you can. What's a blanket and a few hook screws? A little duct tape (not the grey shit the real shit for ducts) in the grand scheme isn't a big pain but will be so much more toward the dank end of shit then the plant-tossed-in-a-random-closet end of the growing spectrum.

plants when growing outside has god intended,do have some light depending on the moon phase. But like a lot of people who have all ready answered i would agree no light what so ever.Every house no matter where on the earth has to have one dark room.If not then build a box with gaffer tape out of card board that will fit over the plant.i have done this my self while growing females and haveing a other grow on the grow in the same room to sex a plant
