It keeps the nodes tight together and allows for more structured nug growth. Stretching creates airy spaced out larfy nugs. It makes bushier plants, easier to manage.

Not sure about increasing yields. Pinching makes the stems thick where you pinch it, giving added stability. Also look up Supercropping, which does the same, plus makes more tops and can help keep height under control. Recommended to be done while plants are in vegetative state.

Pinching? Like topping? New term to me I guess
Similar. It does the same thing, in that it redirects the hormones that make the plant grow vertically. It sends the hormone (mostly in the top of the plant) down to the lower branches and help the plant bush out better. It's just done to not remove the terminal cola.

PS im on abouth the method where you get 2 terminal colas have i got the name wrong is it not called pinching???? ive done many grows but neva have tryed this i thoght it might be worth a try???

11 posts and you have done "Many grows" but you don't know the word topping?

pinching makes my plants grow faster and they seem healthier as a result of the stress.
and i pinch every branch multiple times, it never slows down growth or hurts my plant.
This is what Subcool says about topping slowing plant growth.

"Topping is an area that is misunderstood by many growers. While a single growing shoot will produce a larger single cola, topping a plant properly can put 4 colas in the sweet spot of light intensity. This allows more of the plant, especially the lower buds, to receive better light and produce larger buds. The overall yield of the plant is greater than an un-topped plant in most cases.
It’s important to top the plants early to get a good start on this style. As soon as my clones have rooted well and have started to grow I chop out the meristem, causing the plant to divide into 2 growing shots. This will slow the growth down initially but in the long run you will have a stronger plant that yields more. If this is performed low enough, the plant will actually develop 4 heads - just leave 4 growing shoots.

Not all strains benefit from topping, but most do. Some really short, slow Indicas like Urkle just take too long to grow out when topped like this, but this method allows us to harvest 5 ounces consistently in soil per plant. To be more clear: all plants do better if topped, but some slow-growing varieties will require additional time to mature to a proper budding plant size."

I used to keep one of those co2 bags on top of my hood for my light until one day I accidentally knocked it off on my main cola and broke the stem. It looked horrible. After some research I used a little duct tape and a splint and a week or 2 later it had a huge bump where the stem thickened out. The bud produced from that stem was the biggest bud produced in my room. I don't know if it was bigger because it was a main cola or because of the supercropping, but it certainly didn't hurt.

Pinching the stems and super-cropping is the only way I can grow Sativa dominant strains in my tiny little grow space. =)

It's the difference between a 1/2 oz per plant, versus 1 oz per plant.

Pinching stems is a great way to increase your yield. I like to do it to the main stalk as soon as the clone is rooted. When it regrows do it again. let it rest and top it. let it rest and supercrop to even out canopy. This is the basis of what I do.
