You aren't going to want to keep it like that. Get your sink tapped properly so you don't have to worry about something knocking it loose.
The TIM holds them on, and the kapton tape is for security.
a yr later and still going strong.
If I found a way to drill through my heatsinks without buying new tools i would do it though.

I bought a 5 speed drill press at Harbor Freight for $29.00 regularly $69.00 someone returned it because the shaft wobbled. Well all I had to do was tighten the collar bolt and it was as good as it would ever be. I mean this is not a real tool but for 29 bucks it gets the job done.
That's what I used.

Takes time, but gets it done.
