(photos) Choice of lights, what to use when?

I botched my first attempt and I'm starting over. I have a 2 foot 4 bulb T5 high outupt florescent and a 400 watt digital ballast (can run MH or HPS). I'm gonna start from clones again, but this time I'm gonna do an 18/6 cycle (or 19/5 or 20/4) for veg.

My question is when, if ever, should I utilize the MH? I can't find any threads about it now, but I remember reading somewhere that MH is best for later vegging, is that right? I think I will eventually build a small clone/veg room for the floro to go in, but for now how should I use these lights?

I would use the T5 for clone rooting and seedlings, but that's about it. Once a clone or seedling is rooted, it's all 400W HID from then on.

Sweet titties. That's what I was thinking. Thanks for confirming. That's the second time you helped me I think.
Thanks homie

You're welcome, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to figure a way to use the T5 for flowering as well, though it isn't entirely necessary. I don't know how safe this would be, but would you be able to put the T5 on the ground facing up? Just a thought. You think you'll be able to keep heat under control? You don't really want your space to get hotter than 85.

What happened to your 1st grow? Nvm I saw ur journal.
Ya bummer, but i learned a bunch. I could struggle with these, but it's so easy for me to start over, and I think it will go much smoother.

I've thought about mounting it sideways on the wall..wouldn't be too hard, but I think my space is not wide enough (27' x 22'). I would have trouble keeping plant material off the bulbs...could probably build a glass or plexiglass cover? I don't think I could put it on the ground...see everything sits on top of a small dresser that is inside the closet, and I usually keep a fan or two right up near the open door. Good idea though. I'm thinking down the line I'm gonna get a constant cycle of cuttings from those first four while they get big outside at a friends house. I have this desk that could easily be converted to house them. I'd like to eventually have a mini semi-perpetual harvest where I put bigger clones into flower as soon as they are rooted. I've been brainstorming about it. Since I can only fit six 3 gallon square pots at the most in there, i've thought about stacking 1 gallon pots, as I have plenty of vertical room.

I don't know yet how hard the temp will be to control for sure. I'm going to buy a good duct fan today(don't know what it's called). I'll definitely check how the temps are at different times before I get more clones, cause if I can't keep them down I'll just keep vegging clones under the T5 and putting them in my friend's yard until it gets cool again.

No journal 13?
