pH won't go down in coco! pro response needed

I made the mistake of sprouting my seeds in very hard and alkaline tap water (EC 0.7, pH 7..

Now the pH of the coco (both in runoff and in sample) is way too high (6.4-6.! And I can't get it down no matter how much I flush it with 5.6. My seedlings are all messed up and twisted, many died.

What should I do?

My suggestion would be get some distilled water and flush for 4 to 6 hours then remix your hydro and adjust.

I never worry about run off PH in coco. I just PH nutes/water to 5.8 and I never have a problem.

i got seedlings in there... they are all twisted

I as well am experiencing a high PH in coco. The PH is about 7 and it just won't go down. I am flushing it with a solution of citric acid in aged water (PH 5), which unfortunately does not seem to help much, the ph just stays where it is. The seedlings have their leaves curled down with serious bleaching of the leaves from magnesium deficiency. Did you somehow resolve your problem, asaph? thx in advance

What did you guys do with the coco before you filled your pots? Most coco's require a soak and additional mediums to bring the ph into check. Sadly if your girls are all twisted already then the solution will kill them. The solution is to flush with low ph, like 3.5-4.0, Once coco stabilizes its very hard to move from where it landed. I would suggest instead of going through all the trouble is too start over, balance your medium correctly before you plant and you will have much better results...JAS

The leaves curling and twisting could just be over watering. I use coco in an autopot so i have a reservoir. I put the ph in at 5.5 to 5.7 this rises over the next 5 days or so. When i started the plants i think i presoaked jiffy coco pellets in ph 5.7 but then just misted for a while with regular tap water (mine comes out around 6.3) id let them recover a bit, lay off the watering and see how they do... my run off has also been 6+ when i.was hand watering in.early veg, plants are fine


The leaves bleaching could be related to.that vinegar but thats just a guess...how old are your plants?

I also prewater the coco at 5.6 or so and have always done so cant compare it.personally. mixed with clay pebbles around 70/30

Is perlite ph neutral? I think i read somewhere that its annoying to correct, but again no experinece with it.

Just read.your link, id also suggest.no nutes for at least the first week....maybe even first two weeks. I too use hesi, the EC reads wrong with hesi coco nutes.just worry about ph. I use the root.complex and powerzyme in the presoaking of jiffys and the coco.
