PH up...who makes the best?

When you use the powdered pottasium hydroxide do you mix up a liter or so and keep handy for future feeds or mix as needed?

I've only really used it for the Beam's test sol'n. Bought a bottle of EverClear and took out 250ml for sipping on and added some KOH to the remaining 500ml. Only need a few drops for each test so should last me forever. If I were going to make pH up with it I'd pre-mix a liter or more so it's ready to go. It's very exothermic so if using a plastic bottle make sure you add it to lots of water. It'll get warm but not so warm it will melt the plastic. Pop bottle or clean milk jug would be fine. Do not use an aluminum container as it will react with Al.

#1 ingr. across the bulk of makers ,, Potassium Silicate.
#2 is the Potassium Hydroxide

#1 problem with pH up = Potassium Silicate... Gives issues with other nutrients used - very easily..

If in soil... Avoid it at all costs.

In soil? Calcium based - like (not sure on the name) Olympus UP??? Anybody got that one for sure?

As far as the Down being more effective... It always has been that way. Some downs are really good at that. They have multiple ingr. that are better then single ingr. based ones..

The concentrations of the chemicals needed and their effectiveness - all the while to not harm the plant? Downs win that....

Last part of that ol'friend? You are quite right - pH after mixing, mix each thing with adding water in between and if you add any form of silica....do it last and mix it with the last bit of water before adding those...

Olympus UP is calcium based derived from calcium carbonate.
You can just buy potassium silicate at any hydro shop or most garden centers if you can find one open this time of year. I got a 500ml bottle of concentrate a few years back but prefer the AN Rhino SKin as it works better with the other AN pH Perfect nutes. The one I got is made by CannaMax labs and is very strong and says use 1/4ml/L compared to 1 - 2ml/L of the Rhino. It'll push RO water over pH 10 where the Rhino goes to pH 8.5 I believe. Long time since I tested them. Was $15 for the 500ml bottle that's still full. Stuff is thick like cold molasses.

$16 for a pound of hydroponic grade water soluble potassium silicate at custom hydro.

Going by the name at the top of that bottle I was wondering what they need silver, Ag, in there for but I guess that stands for Agriculture. :D

I'm planning to try watering a plant with colloidal silver and see what happens. See if it flips sex or just up and dies. lol

Root Farm is a subsidiary of Monsanto/Bayer/Hawthorn and should be shunned like GH, Gavita and any other company now part of that Borg outfit.

Actually Hawthorne is owned by Scotts Miracle-Gro. As is Sunlight Supply and many other companies. They're based across the Columbia river from me in Vancouver Washington and they are building out a huge manufacturing and distribution center in Vancouver near the Port of Vancouver. Scotts and Monsanto have entered into several business arrangements specifically regarding the production and distribution of Roundup products. But Scotts Miracle-Gro has gone all in on cannabis products and they're profits have soared.

Vinegar is a weak organic acid and doesn't work all that well but not going to add anything harmful. I'd still just use a commercial pH down tho.

Cool it works for me I only need a few drops of it to get my pH where I want.

Scotts basically went into a financial agreement with Monsanto a few years back to the tune of 300 mil so they're all in bed together and I just consider them a deplorable cabal of companies and do my best to not support them. Each to their own so I don't want to get into another flame war about it and destroy another good thread. Now that Monsanto is owned by Bayer demons have truly been unleashed on the planet.

I got bones to pick with a long list of companies that have nothing to do with cannabis as well. Producing toxic foods under the guise of healthy living to increase their profits and make their shareholder happy. Means I eat a lot less junk than I used to so I guess they are helping me at least. ;)

It's pretty hard to get away from global corporate monstrosities when less than ten companies control more than 80% of the raw nutrients used in fertilizer around the world. Unless you're growing organic and getting chicken shit and cow pies from Farmer Brown down the road you're not going to get away from big AG. Don't you use Advanced Nutrients? They aren't choir boys themselves. :bigjoint:

honestly been using diluted down phosphoric acid 85% and I do 2/3 the bottle with the acid then the rest water just don't get it on your hands hehehe

I use phosphoric acid myself but it's pH Down not pH Up. I buy it by the gallon for $20. And you definitely don't want to get it on your skin. It's used quite extensively in the food industry. They put it in Coca Cola and other soft drinks as well.

True that but they're a Canadian company that started just down the road from where I used to live in the Fraser Valley and I shot pool with Big Mike in a bar in Clearbrook when he was just getting going so have a personal connection albeit very tenuous and brief. Considering how much grief people go thru messing with pH issues AN frees you from all that BS so has it's positives. Their 3-part is the same price as GH so why not use it and not have to pH test . . .ever? I don't buy the expensive supplements other than Big Bud and Rhino Skin.

I'm using Mega Crop as well now and recently won a trial pack of Remo nutes that has all their goodies in one box so as soon as I get to the hydro store in the city to pick it up I'll give that a go as well. Already use their Calmag.

Just messing with you. It doesn't matter to me what people use. If they're growing good dope and are happy that's all that matters. I personally have shunned all name brand cannabis specific products. I just use cheap dry nutes. In the past I've used GH Flora series, Maxi series, Botanicare, and a couple others I can't remember the name of. None gave me any better results than what I use now. I have somewhat of a similar situation as the dry nutrients I use are packaged by the oldest hydro store here in Portland and I've been going there for years and am willing to pay a little more for what I get to support a local small business. Now back to the real business at hand. Smoking some of that fire we all like to grow. bongsmilie

Smoking some of that fire we all like to grow.

I'd hit that! lol

Smoking some of the Island Sweet Shunk x DJ Short's Blueberry I grew out 4 plants from seed a while ago. The one that actually turned purple at the end is my fave of the 4 but all are nice. Regular seeds but all 4 came up girls. The Hindu Kush turns almost black at the end and is a great nighttime hit. Will be cropping the one of it flowering now in a couple weeks. Need to get going on repotting some of the 24 small plants vegging for months in the spare bedroom.
