pH question

Hey,

I had a PH question. Should I check the pH level for the water that Im going to use to water my plant, before its watered or the ph of the driange coming out of the soil. Or both?

Advice? zzz

If I get a bad reading how do I increase/decrease PH.

what do u mean by BAD reading?

if its off just adjust with the appropriate ph adjuster.

depending on hydro or soil.

i think its generally 5.5-6.1 ph for hydro

6.3-6.9ish for soil?

also, dont be tight with the ph up/down solution it makes a big dif. go hydro store and get proper ph up/down. its about $3-$5 for a 700ml bottle. its alot more concerntrated than aquarium stuff so it requires less of it therefore screwing up your EC/PPM less

Increase PH add baking soda.
Decrease PH add vinegar.

It only takes a very little bit of either if you are using distilled water like I am so I have never had a problem. Most, if not all the time, I am adding just a pinch or two of baking soda to raise the PH to 6.5 in soil.

Or you could buy expensive PH Up and Down thru hydro shops.

nah.. $3-$10 is not much to spend considering how important it is. as i said i wouldnt be tight on ph adjusting solution. i even suguest against the ph adjusting solution u may have lying around for your aquarium even.

it can cause alot of probs as its less concerntrated and requires more to reach desired level plus increasing EC levels.

I would not use any pH adjusters unless they were specifically designed for growing. The reason is baking soda/citrus juice, etc... can cause reservoir problems (unwanted toxins, algae growth, etc..).
