6.5 is about right for standard soil. There isn't any medium I know of that uses higher than about Ph 6.7. As Jack mentioned, you should specify whether you're talking about the Ph of the soil or that of a liquid. If the soil was too acidic, you'd use some kind of lime to correct it.

yeh sorry guys, its the soil. I recently just transfered her into some BioBizz All-Mix soil from some crappy ASDA (wal mart) shite, and now it looks like her leaves are really curling, and the tips of them are even going a bit yellow =[. She took to the soil really well at first, I had no problems in the first 24 hours, but then I watered her and it went a bit blah! the ph of my old soil was 7, and this soil was at 7 when I first put her in, then last night she was at 6.5, this morning she is at 6. I don't know what to do. =[.

lol guys you make me laugh! Well, Ive watered her out good and proper and managed to keep the pH at 6.5 for today, and her growth seems to be back on track. As for pissing in the pot, I only did that once or twice after a few too many beers! ;-P but still, she's back on track now, with just rainwater!. Cheers guys! you're all diamonds!

What happens with soil Ph is that it mixes with the liquids you give it to form a new Ph. Your soil is probably acidic and you watered with plain water. The more plain water is in the soil and the sooner after watering you test it, the closer the soil Ph will be to the liquid's Ph. For example, if the soil is Ph 6.7 and you soak it with plain water, there may not be enough acidifiers to lower the water's Ph. When you test the wet soil, you get a reading of 7.0 because that's the water's Ph. As the substances in the soil slowly dissolve into the water, the Ph will slowly change because more acidifiers are dissolving into the liquid. Also, as the water dries out, there will be less Ph 7 liquid compared to how much Ph 6.7 soil there is, causing the Ph to fall further.

The Ph of your soil is the reading furthest from the Ph of the water you give it. If you water with plain, Ph 7 liquid and the soil tests more acidic each day as it dries out, the soil Ph will be the most acidic reading you get.

The optimum Ph level for plain soil is around 6.5. Ph 6 is used with coco coir, hydro and a few other, less common mediums.
