if you had 1 tbsp of garden lime to your soil and mix well, then plant, pH will buffer between 6.2-6.8, so you wont have to worry to much about testing soil pH... if you do pH your water, just keep it between 6.0-7.0 and the buffer will do the rest. You can use lime juice to lower the pH or baking soda to increase it.

I test the run-off water, but the nursery where i used to get the soil pH checked just put a few tbsp of soil in a small container of water. Take the soil from somewhere down in the pot. As I siad, I just vheck the run-off, and that seems to do it for me.

You can get a soil PH test kit off of amazon they give you a ball park figure,

dont add lime to your potting soil unless you are actually building a super mix, first because you probably dont need it and second too much lime and you'll kill your plants.

i feed my soil plants with 5.5-6 PH water, I have 7.8 PH tapwater on average, and my soil sits around 6.5 consistently, using foxfarms ocean forest.

If you try to read your mediums pH by testing runoff all your going to do is chase your tail. As stated add some lime and wormcastings into your mix and forget about pH...the medium will take care of itself with proper feeding and watering habits.

So, if i used distilled water (7ph) and the run off came out to 6.3. Should i leave my nute solution alone or ph up to 7.5ish so it would make my runoff 6.8?
