Ph is this possible?

Ok I have a hydrofarm activeaqua RO system my issue is I test the ph before I run the water through the RO and after and the ph is actually higher after RO? Goes from like 6.5 to 6.9. I have reference solution and my tester reads that fine also I have reset the tester to factory calibration just in case.

1) RO unit is intended for human drinking water. If so, it will have a unit on it that adds alkalinity, this will be placed after the RO membrane unit. Alkalinity is added improve the taste of the water, as the long term effects of people drinking acidic water is proven to contribute to many health issues. It's also added to inhibit corrosion of household plumbing.

or

2) It is a result of the agent used by the manufacturer to sterilise the unit prior to use - many of which are caustic. If this is the case, it will flush out within 2-3 days of being connected.
I found that on another website searching your problem. However our RO water sits at about that level of pH anyways. I would flush the system 2-4 times preferably with warmer water then let her rip and check ppm in and out. See if it is doing its job.

Thanks Light house the RO is working for sure as the ppm in is 36 and out 3. Good info though I am guessing it will drop a little over time. I was stressing about my ph meter as I was getting results all over the place.

What type of pH meter?

Biggest thing to make sure is that the probe(s) are not being damaged by either swirling, or wacked on things. Other then that make sure to keep the unit wet, most have caps that retain water to keep the sensory probe wet and not dried out. A dried out pH meter may need to be re calibrated Soaked in water for 24 hours, then calibrated with proper calibration solutions usually 4.0 and 7.0.

A good test to run on it is get some water, whatever it may be but make sure it is the same add whatever you want and pour it into three glasses cleaned equally. Test pH in each. Should be the same or very very close to it depending on how well you mixed the liquid, the time after you took each test ( should be back to back ) , and residual crap in glass.

Cheers and sounds like the RO system is working so I wouldn't worry about it :) my truncheon only goes by the 100's and 50's lucky you haha

i dont think thsi is anythign to worry about, water that you buy at the store is 7.0 usually when its been RO'd sounds right to me.

Looks like Eco testr is the brand I just grabbed the cheap one off eBay for now I will get a better one after first harvest. But you have a point I was storing it dry I will keep some liquid on her from now on guess I didn't realize that I needed to keep it moist. Lol

Water should be 7.0 coming out of a clean RO system.

Replace your meter, or RO filters if it doesn't stay .1 around 7 off RO.

If you wanna know what your water actually is at, that is.

The pH of low-ionic-strength water is hard to read. I used DI (deionized) water once that read in the nines, until you put a drop of something ionic into it. I would not worry. cn

hey guys thanks for the responses all really good info so after i soaked the probe overnight i ran quite a few more tests and i think its all good now or at least i am getting consistent readings. No big deal over the fluctuation of the previous PH tests as it was user error. big surprise i am a noob after all.
