PH dropping & Ec rising and yellowing leaves

Hey everyone
Having some issues at the moment with ph and ec.
grow is blue dream ( garden of green)
Dwc system running shogun nutes with hydoguard
Week 6 of flower
noticed last week a few leaves starting to yellow checked water parameters and ph had dropped to 4.9 and ec had risen to 2.6!
Topped off with plain ph water and have been checking daily still the ph drops and ec going up. Just about to do a res change with a lighter feed about an ec of 1.0
Any ideas on what’s causing this?

If pH is dropping and EC is rising then you’re feeding too heavy.

you want to try and reach and equilibrium where by EC and pH only drop or rise by small margins with the ideal being no rise or drop and just a water level drop in the DWC.

you haven’t mentioned what EC and pH you set your res at when It rose up to 2.6EC 4.9pH.

When you’re feeding to heavy you will see EC rise and pH drop.

this is because the plant is not using the nutrients and removing more water from the mix to sustain some amount of growth.

when you’re feeding too lightly you will see EC drop and pH rise because more nutrients are being used out of the mix.

depending upon what your EC was and what it increased to will determine my next answer.

but in short your plan sounds ok to reduce EC to 1.0 and then watch your res to see what happens with it.

EC rises Then you need to reduce EC more.

if EC drops then you need to increase EC.

your ph will swing as the EC changes that’s how it works.

once you find the equilibrium your EC and pH should stay pretty stable once the plant is happy again and when you’ve found that perfect EC.

however though EC will still need to be monitored in the way I explained to keep track of what’s happening at the rootzone.

hope this makes sense.

Also check once in 24 hours.

if you check and correct the res more than this it can have you in a state of flux of trying to adjust after every little change.

check EC and pH once every 24 hours.

What a well explained answer thanks mate!
Original EC and ph before fluctuations was 1.8 and 6.0ph
Res change done this morning.
I will check again this evening and tomorrow morning to see if it’s holding or fluctuating again. Once again thanks for your detailed explanation made things very easy to understand

What’s your source water starting at?

no worries mate I’ve been around the block lol.

You set it at 1.8 and it rose to 2.6 that’s a 0.8 discrepancy so your plan to drop to 1.0 is perfect.

as plants finish flower they also consume less nutes so you may find yourself reducing EC each 24 hours until finishing around 0.6.

You should check res tomorrow morning for adjustment.

you can check this evening but don’t adjust

Only adjust once in a 24 hour period.

Fantastic!
thanks mate I’ll check first thing tomorrow morning and adjust accordingly.
will these problems have an effect on the harvest/yield etc ??

if you’ve been correcting everyday to a lower EC then it shouldn’t impact too greatly.

When you say you’re at week 6 flower is that week 6 of 12/12. Or week 6 since then began flowering?
