Ph and ppm

Pictures show that probe being used for sushi, cheese and oranges. Can it be used in pro-mix?
I do it all the time, peat based mixes, coco. Just pre-poke the hole if there is resistance, not loose soil, the probe tip is swiss glass and not cheap to replace. They sell a poker tool I think but I just whittled one out of a stick lol. I take it with me when buying bales, stick and test the pH before you buy. It's my go to meter for liquids and medium and I find myself only using my others if I am too lazy to go fetch it from a different room lol.

Have you ever tried one of these units with the probe made by blue lab that only requires calibration once per month? Or is it a waist of $500 bucks

My hand-me-down bluelab is 5 years old and still running strong. All i did was replace the ph probe with a $15 generic one I found on amazon. I check it against a pH strip test kit every so often and it’s always accurate.

Why would you check it against a strip test kit? Buy some ph 7 calibration fluid and actually know how far its off or recalibrate.

The 15-20 dollar ph pens work great for measuring liquids. Have a bottle of reference to check it once a month and it should last, at 15 bucks each they are cheap to replace when it goes bad. Proper care and storage is key to any ph meter no matter the cost.

The 15 dollar probe you got is a basic one, did the blue lab pen not use a scientific grade ph probe? You will see a difference vs a basic and a scientific grade one.

I’ve got calibration solution too. I just use the test strips to make sure everything is accurate. Just an extra step to satisfy my ocd tendencies. I got the $15 probe cause it was $15. The bluelab replacement was like $80. I’ve already dropped $5k into this grow room so I try and save money where I can. If accuracy was ever an issue, I’d spend the coin on the bluelab probe but so far it’s worked just fine
