Im having a slug problem . The area I use is tall grass with patches of pointy pokey plants and flower like plants. So I planted in the end of may alil after the 20th outdoors i had alil over a quarter of a bag of fox farms I dug a hole and dumped the soil in planted the plant and left. Came back a couple weeks later and the thing looked the same size as when i planted had a couple holes on the bottom leaves I saw a couple slugs around I dident think much of it at the same time I noticed the plant top was pointing to the right I also noticed the stem down by the roots appeared chewed in half in a spot and the soil dident fill the hole i digged up so the plant was alil low I came back added some soil and used some seven on it saw snails and some slugs around it. Came back a couple weeks later and it was standing straight up looked taller had some new yellowish green growth at the top yet more holey at the bottom leaves and slugs on some branches I was like hum I mentioned it to a friend and was like wtf idk what to do this time think I got a slug problem was gonna get some slug bait mentioned sand or kitty litter and the guy said sand has salt no good and litter no good slug bait poison no good just use beer. So ive been doing the beer traps I cut a couple soda cans in half and pickup a 24 natty daddy real cheap strong shit for a buck a can drink a quarter of the can pour the rest into the soda can traps I been doing this for this last month and they are filled up everytime but smell really bad the dead rotten slugs. I pretty much just toss them into the field bushes. The thing appears to have new growth and appears to be getting taller but there are still plenty of slugs all around infact I pulled some off today

Put half cup full off beer buried into the ground the slugs are attracted by the smell and drown.. Once it rains you need to fix them..unless you cover them with tree bark.. Or put copper wires around the base of the plant, the slugs hate the feeling of it.. You can use diatomaceous earth as well around the base..n they can't get over it. Also slugg pellets work great too

im using beer traps like I said they are still coming and attacking strongwhy does it matter where you put the traps on the ground in the hole on top of the soil the slugs are still gonna goto it are they not??? slugs the problem is that the traps fill up and in a week there are a bunch more on the plant there coming out of the soil around it don't slugs start to go away when the weather gets colder

Go to your local garden store and get some Bug Geta. Shake some of the pellets around the base of your plants. Snails and slugs eat the pellets and die. Problem solved. Much more efficient than the other methods discussed

buy a 12 pack of miller high life, drink the whole bottle, and then smash the bottle into tiny chards of glass. pour the chards around the base of the plant.

snails and slugs will stand no chance, plus, you get to drink the whole beer!

Get food grade Diatomaceous Earth and sprinkle it in the area. It will kill the slugs and will enhance the soil with a little silica.

uhhhh salt works well ... pour a circle around the plant base big enough that it doesn't leach into the soil.. or lay a layer of plantic down and put salt on that... the plastic will also keep the weeds down and other pest in the ground where they belong.

It works better when the traps are in the ground cuz the slugs dont have to climb the can. It might be less work for the to just go to the plant. That being said... U can also take some cardboard and make a colar around the base of the plants, about 6" tall. The slugs hate cardboard.

The beer traps usually work fine for me tho, but as mentioned (and same with the diatomaceous earth) need to be freshened up after rain.

beer trap ! only way to kill those slugs, get a bowl of beer or 2 or 3 or 6 , what ever it takes, make sure you drink a few 40 ouncers for me. please I cant drink. but wana so bad

+1. My girls are in pots, but they still attract lots of slugs and snails. I do the same as Bass1014...put a layer of plastic under the pots and pour a thick layer of ice cream salt (rock salt) surrounding the base of the pots. Ice cream salt is best, because it's chunky and therefore doesn't "melt" as fast. Snails and slugs will shrivel up instantly on contact and dry out...no obnoxious odors from dead slugs rotting in stale beer. Yuck. I've used this method for 30 years and have never found a reason to try anything else. Works fantastic!!!

Those work GREAT, only thing to be careful with slug pellets dogs love the taste of them so not for if you have any pets around. Finely crushed eggshells around the base also really help a shitload, also too sharp for them to cross. Or do what I did and get some chickens, goooodbye slugs.

then use copper wires around the bases the slugs slime has a reaction..and your protecting your plants specifically. that coupled with the beer traps has worked for me and i did a couple swamp grows.. i also used diatomateous earth for pool filters. i would think the salt would be a bad idea unless your in pots

That's right man, organic slug pellets are copper based. Can't believe I didn't thing of just using copper mesh or wire before.
