so it is time to transplant and I noticed the MG organic soil is very compacted, so I bought some perlite to mix in the new soil. My question is What exactly is perlite and what ratio, I bought a 8 quart bag of soil how much perlite so I use??? Does it make that big of a differance? Thank you for the help.

I would add about one part perlite to every 5 parts soil. I am using the same soil and that is about all it should take.

scap that, just bought a bag today, repotted my smallest and mixed it in. good stuff. unfortunately, my taller of the two was repotted the other day into a soil mix containing vermiculite but not perlite. i tried mixing perlite with the top few layers but am unsure about remixing the soil as i dont want to disturb the roots, which had filled the 5" pot it came from a few days ago... any tips? current tubs are 3 gals...

I did not realize how bad my plants were, I repotted last night and the root ball was huge 8" for a 6" plant. Since the transplant with perlite HUGE differance. I swear the plant is 2" taller after 24 hours. THANK YOU
