is there a way around the bullshit where you have to buy like a hundred dollar ballast just to get the shit lit? like maybe a medium base socket or something? I have two HPS bulbs just sitting here waiting to contribute to my closet but there's just nothing I can fucking find that will light it for less than 100 dollars.

you have to buy the ballast, there is no way around it. Any investment in a light is a good one it will pay for itself after the first harvest.

ya I've been all up and down those stores the past 48 hours but it's just all too expensive for me... can't afford 60 right now :|

save up and by the ballast you wont be disapointed.what wattage are the bulbs just make sure you but the right ballast for the bulbs

then youll have to steal one. its not that hard really, most shops and places of busniess will have a hps right out front to light up the store sign at night. telephone booths have 100w mh lights in them. just go late at night and do it.

Before you consider going around stealing things - consider this: there are people (like me, for instance) who have absolutely no sympathy for thieves! Ever hear of "Insured by Smith & Wesson"? Believe it! Some people may warn you about Karma - but getting your fucking head blown off would really ruin your whole day!

On a lighter note, you can get good "replacement kits" (all the parts for a ballast) for a little over $50. from several places - just Google hps ballast kit.

i got my 1st light from an old ware house....400w mh from inside the warehouse....250hps from the car park outside the warehouse the work men let me take them as it was getting knocked down anyway. but like doobsday says look around there all over the place.

If you have low wattage bulbs I've seen Adapters that reduce the mulligan socket to a standard socket. But dude, honestly there's def a reason why your SUPPOSED to get a ballast with a light. It helps transform the energy into the most efficient form for the lamp and WILL cut down on your electric over a reducer. Also, I would assume that without a ballast your electric cords are going to heat up an could possibly be a fire hazard...

What type of light r u currently using? When I first started I was using $10 shop fluorescent lights that veg awesome but aren't good for buds. Now i'm using a 400 watt hps i got off of ebay for $100. Included ballast, reflector and bulb ready to plug up. Man you wouldn't believe the difference. The hps is well worth it but you do have things to buy to maintain a grow room. My suggestion is get a good harvest sell just a lil bit then go buy what you need. Don't steal, lol it wont get you anywhere.
