i bought a 500w blackstar when my 600w ballast went wacky and i had to ship it out for a new one under warranty. i figured i'd let the blackstar handle what the 600w hps was, while waiting on my new ballast. then i'd use the blackstar either in my veg room on some autos, or in my lil tent i have for some extra buds.

almost week 7 and the buds look like crystally popcorn. and i'm talking about my tops. all i have is tops. thats how i grow. a scrog without a scrog. LED's are fuckin horseshit. and now that i realize this, every thread i see about LED's are from noobs that havent a clue about their ass from their elbow.

i feel like the fuckin noob.

i could get 3x fatter buds from CFL's lol FML

anybody interested in a 500w blackstar thats been used for 45 days?

You do realize that the Blackstar 500w has an actual wattage draw of 270w, right? False marketing on the part of Blackstar.

There is no way a Blackstar 500 can even match part of a 600 watt HPS. You'd need 2-3 of those to replace one 600w HPS.

Good luck selling that light. I don't want it.

it draws 300 watts and yes i was aware of that before i bought it.
i dont understand what it is you're trying to tell me here.

are you trying to teach me something captain obvious?

i'm not talking about matching my 600w to this blackstar. i'm telling ppl that investing in LED's is a WASTE OF $$$$$.
i see you can read, but have trouble comprehending.

I've seen people trying to use Blackstar LEDs to replace HPS, and it just doesn't work. I've used not only the exact LED you're talking about, but many others as well.

I was only agreeing with you.

Maybe someone needs a time out do they? There was no reason to lash out on me.

ive growen for 30 years plus...4 and 5 k shows hps/mh....cant do that now....i get awsome results when i use my blackstars in conjunction with hps...and i aint no noob.......

im not trying to replace my hps. i used the blackstar as a bandaid in the midst of my perpetual when my ballast stopped working. with plans to do some small grows on the side of my main grow with it once i got my ballast back, which will be next week, thank baby jesus.

i'm just pissed that i spent $550 on a piece of shit, when for that price i coulda got a top of the line light, hood, ballast n even an inline. i'm just venting n thought you were rubbing it in,, my bad chief.

its all good ....,i feel betrayed by my blackstars also...thought they would replace a 400....NOT!..but double the footprint of said 400 with no ill affects...more like the buds ive traditionally grown....sorry u feel so bad...but just maby try using it to sub hps...u may be suprised....

To me that looked like you were trying to use 250-300w to try to replace 600w of HPS. Hence what I said... But agreed that it sucked by saying "good luck selling it, I don't want it".

I have used Blackstar and got okay yields, but they are not equal to HPS.

But, is it fair to judge all LEDs based on just the performance of a Blackstar? There are many name brand LEDs, and many ways to configure them. No 2 LED fixtures are created equally.

Blackstar are notorious for lying about their LEDs. Especially their "Cree" LEDs, they are using spectrum from Cree, that Cree do not even make, all it takes is cross referencing what Blackstar says about Cree, and the actual Cree website, people that can read will see that Blackstar is full of shit, and that they use no name Chinese LEDs.

LEDs are only good if you use the right ones, and do not expect miracles out of them. The right ones actually work quite well.

that i can see,, in conjunction with hps. dont get me wrong, these buds i've got are crystally as all hell. they're just puny and a pathetic size for what day they're on.

i got stuck in a jam and needed a quick fix to keep my perpetual flowing. and ended making a rushed decision without proper research. it's my own fault,, i know this.

yup...u get the crystal ..but also get traditional hps.mh size...like havin yer cake with frosting!..anyway jmho....hope u find a use for the blackstar...good luk bro.

i really dont think any1 meant to upset anyone...?....sorry about yer intro to rui....mine was also as harsh, I just ignore the general chatter here....often i jump in to stop a noob mistake only to be trashed by other noobs...so now mostly just use it as an alternative to facebook and other privacy thief sites.

thanks buddy!,, i'm still on the fence about it. i'll figure something out. eventually :sad: lol prolly gonna sell it and buy a 400w for my small tent. i'd try to do what ur recommending but i dont have the space with my hood, filter and supplimental 60w of uvb i use.
