Here's a pretty substantial update. Got some pics as I made it rain for all the plants today. To include the seedling in group E.

I've also started a "Group F" consisting of three more Northern Light seeds. I have about 5 seeds I got from one of the harvests that I have kept. So I'm not sure if all of these will sprout, or how many males will be in the group. These will be grown in the smaller half gallon pots when I move them into flower.

My water cure is finished today. Appears to be dry, although I'll probably jar it up in 12 hours or so.

The smoke, like everyone says is smooth. I vape, and I get many pulls off of this before the herb seems to be spent. The herb burns sooooo evenly as well. It is a pleasure I must say. And so far, it is potent as hell!! I really won't be able to compare until I can try a sample of the stuff I have jar-curing which will be ready by the end of March to see if in fact the potency is drastically different.

The appearance..... it definitely looks darker and not as pretty as the regular jar-cure herb does. Brings out a lot more reds. I will say also that it does start to look more like brick weed, :)

The smell... also like everyone says it doesn't smell like weed anymore. I was trying to place the smell for a while, it was very familiar. But it finally came to me, it smells EXACTLY like the pine you smell from a new Christmas Tree. I'm dead serious on that.

Here is a day by day progression of how things looked in the jar. From day 1 through day 7. I tried to take pictures that show how the color of the water changed each day. For that look for a clear spot on the jar where you can see the water. Right around day 4 is when the water started to remain mostly clear.

day1.jpg day2.jpg day3.jpg day4.jpg day5.jpg day6.jpg

Here is a pic of the drying rack I devised since most of the buds were to small to bother hanging up. It's just a rectangular piece of cardboard with a luffa sponge attached to it.

IMG_0001.jpg

Here are all the nugs on the scale. I didn't measure the FINAL wet weight I started curing, but I would say it was about 30 grams. Here you can see it's just over 4 grams of dried weight.

I water-cured some Northern Lights. I still have yet to harvest a Jock Horror, probably not for another 30 days unfortunately. You definitely should take a few grams and water cure. Don't go overboard though, but I think it should be one of those things all us growers try at least once. I can say although it was fun and all, but the characteristics of water cure just doesn't compare with letting the plant break down all those sugars and starches via air.

On another note, I am not impressed with the NL strain from Nirvana. It's just boring. I have a NL in flower and a JH, and the smell of the NL is kinda 'piny' and boring. The JH smells interesting, more fruity.

I have grown quite a few plants outdoors(all bagseed) prior to my indoor growing, and a lot of the different seeds I grew had completely different smells. Some of them would have that really interesting and different smell. Well that's what the JH is like, it smells 'interesting' and much more complex than the NL. I anxiously await being able to test it out, which won't be for another 2 months unfortunately.

from what i hear they way that they bred nl it is supposed to have somewhat of a neutral smell and be easy to grow. i have heard about it being a tad boring to haha. you should try some autos is there and see how you like em. i leave my box on 18/6 all the time and have plants in different stages all in there.

peace

Ya, NL is just boring. It's a fine plant and all, just kinda mundane though. I'd try some autos in some half gallon pots maybe eventually. Might be a while before I order some more. In fact, I currently have ONE JH in veg, and I think that might be the last plant I move into flower for a while.

Same here dude, after my WW get finished I'm done for the summer. I still have one ww in veg, it will stay there 2 more weeks then flower. That should be plenty of smoke for me and my ole lady for the summer.

Just some pictures since its been a while. This is just my flowering cab.

The Northern Lights are tucked in the back as you can see, and I should be chopping in the next week or so. The JH are sitting pretty in the front there. One thing you'll notice, something that I had to learn the hard way despite what I had read prior, "Green is good!" Seriously folks, stop cutting your plant up while its growing thinking you're getting more light to where it needs. Your plant will love you for letting it keep as many green parts as possible :)

Still have another JH sitting in Veg right now.

Also, I'm thinking about starting a bunch of bagseed shortly to have ready to go into flower by the time I pull my JH out of flower.

Here's a shot of the Last JH I have in veg right now. This is about the time I would pull it out and start flowering with it. I am gonna wait just a while longer though, as it is going to get another round of topping to try and keep her as short as possible.

Also you can see the group of bagseed I have started in the little jiffy pots.

I am going to be moving the box into the basement before the weather changes, and am going to be flipping my light schedule, so that lights are on at night instead of day. This should require less work from the box to stay cooler since temps are lower at night. I am undecided on if I want to wait that long before I put the last JH into flower.

I'm guessing the JH in my flowering cab has about another 20-30 days to finish. So that would mean I could veg this one JH for that much longer, which would be close to 60 days in veg. THEN I could flip the light schedule no problem.

Strain: Northern Lights Fem
Growth: Fat, Bushy, Very Green, kept Low w/LST under 150 wattHPS
Nutes: FF OC, FF Big Bloom then switched to Aurora Soul Synthetic Bloom
Yield: About 37 grams per plant * 3 two gallon pots
Bag Appeal: Mixture of greens, crusted with orange hairs
Smell: Rather Neutral, somewhat piny. Smell is nicer when bud is cracked or grinded.
Taste: Also rather neutral. Nice smooth smoke, pleasant taste.
The High: Huge Pleasant Head High mostly, Slight body buzz and relaxant.

Comments:
This bud at time of this tasting has on it a 3 week cure so far. As this was my SECOND harvest, I waited an additional 2 weeks in flower as my first harvest. This batch in the review is a MUCH better HIGH!!! This tells me I pulled my first batch too soon. I am rather pleased, but not overwhelmed.

Just did some transplanting of that last JH. Plans are to hit it with one more round of topping to keep her short, after she adjusts to the new pot.

Here is a shot of the vegging chamber with that new transplant, and the 4 bagseed that sprouted. I'm not sure what I plan on doing with the bagseed. They are definetely going into the small 1/2 gallon pots. I will probably just top them in these small little jiffy pots, transplant into bigger pots then move into flower?
