Pc grow question

Im constructing a pc box .. its gonna be growing tomatoes obviously.. and I want to put in a carbon filter.. but not on the outside of the box. Is that possible?? I have a lot of space so it shouldn't be an issue. If you could imagine it the fan would be in the same spot but the carbon filter would be in the pc..??

How can I do this because stealth is very important!

i made my pc carbon filter thingy in the ex-powersupply box thing.... it works perfectly....it came with the fan already, just removed the rest of the powersupply, it has some lil holes in the back, and the fan pulls the air through it and out the back.... i put carbon pellets inside a stalking and put it in the box and viola! it's working...

temps sometimes get a little hot though...

nothing in there yet... but i gave it a try with some minced garlic and no smell came out so it's working.....

i can't vouch for the CFM.... i believe it's a 120mm fan if that's some help....

if you need to wire them you need a 12VDC converter probably, depends on the fan you have....

it's like a phone charger, but it's a converter..... what you use to hook up those motorola surfboard cable modems, that one's 12VDC..... a lot of electronics use it... there's a big chance you might have one lying around the house....

or if you know somene that works with ATT uverse or time warner, those people have tons and tons of those.....

Yea i know about fan wiring. Whats a stalking? Can you explain again how your psu carbon filter worked?

i don't know if it's a stalking, it's a panty-hose, woman's dress sock, whatever you wanna call it... what thieves put on their head in the movies.....

the carbon pellets from fish tanks water filters....

take those, make sure they are nice n crushed, not sand like, sort of like a perlite-like consistency....

put them inside the stalking and tie up the end.... put that inside the box where the power supply used to be.... it worked like a charm for me.....

Yea.. I see what your saying. Pretty good idea. Is it possible to have a fan on both sides of the carbon filter?

of course...

just make sure one's pushing, into the filter, one's pulling out of it.... you don't want htem in opposite directions... like both pulling from the interior... that will just be pointless...... using .two pc fans is even recomended because the CFM's will decrease to like 1/3 of it's original after the carbon filter's in place....

make sure it's pretty snug so the air won't sneak by the carbon filter instead of pushing through

what about lighting? i'm going with either 2 42 watt CFL's or 4 26 watt CFL's.... 1/2 soft white 1/2 daylight.... gotta work out some space issues though....

my carbon filter is about 2 inches thick and around 4" x 6". go to a pet store, look for teh multi pack fish tank filters. whisper brand. comes with packs of activated carbon and all you do is pour it into a filter sponge and seal the top with the provided clip. attach to one side of your fan within the box and takes up little to no growing space. good luck! happy growings.

I have 2 26 watt soft white and 2 26 watt day light. The daylight are 6500k and the soft white are.. I don't remember but their in the 2000 range so their flowering lights. What do you guys think about my light set up. I will be growing 1 plant but do you think I could grow 2? They are all 100 watt equivalent.

Would either of you guys mind explaining how to wire a fan(computer fan)?I want to build a grow box,but am unsure how to wire the fan?
Any help would be appreciated.

no problem. find a plug that would be used commonly with a game counsel like nintendo 64 or a phone charger etc...look on the little 'box plug' and look for the input/output voltage. the input voltage should match what ever you have around your grow area (most homes commonly use 120v) and the output voltage should match what the fan uses(most likely 12v). use wire strippers to cut the opposite end off(where it plugs into the phone or what ever used for) and strip an inch of wire from each wire(2 on the plug and 2 on the fan. twist one lead from the fan with one lead from the plug and electrical tape that up so nothing touches the bare wire. do the same with the remaining lead from both fan and plug and tape. thats all there is to it. ill draw up a picture n post it for ya

one more important thing about wiring...make sure if the fan neeeds DC current, you use a wall plug that converts to dc. most likely if its 12v itl be dc but just so you dont fry ne thing had to say that. good luck!

on each picture, cut at the red line and strip enough wire to splice each end together. does not matter which one goes on which, just as long as one goes from plug to fan and another meets up with plug to fan. and make sure you tape it well! i cant stress it enough, dont do a half ass job when it comes to electrical, you could really regret it one day. hope this helps! goodluck in your growings

One more question. In the photo you posted, the adapter only has one outside wire.Once you strip it,is there 2 wires on the inside of the casing?

look for any charger thing that fits into electronics... find one that says output 12vdc...

a lot of modems use a 12vdc charger, if you have old modems or cell phone chargers gather them up...

look for one that says output 12VDC

that's the one you're looking for... inside it's gonna have 2 wires, probably a red and black... you have to cut the plug at the end off.......
