PC Grow Box Smell?

Greetings,
I may not be thinking clearly at the moment... however I was browsing around for a decent stealth grow system. Most of these don't seem to mention the ability to mask smells. I have only really seen smell prevention (limited search mind you) on larger rooms. Maybe a "computer" smelling like skunk would tip someone off. Can anyone tell me what sort of smell issues they have had and what they did about it on very low key stealth grows (filing cabinets, drawers, PCs, etc).

Thanks!

ona jell or a inline fan and carbon filter. As long as the carbon filter is near the PC it'll work.

don't think there is one. You pretty much need the back pressure an inline fan has for a carbon filter to work. You can buy cheap home made filters on ebay but they don't really work too well. If you smoke I would just say you have the carbon filter for the smoke so it doesn't get to the other rooms if anyone asks.

Thanks for the reply. I am not worried about the smoke, just the smell while growing in the PC. Probably just one plant but growing in a non-friendly home so any smell would be a bad smell. I have not grown before so not sure how strong of a smell I am dealing with (I do realize it depends on strain, just looking for a generic rule of thumb). Do you think a homemade carbon/fan setup would be enough? I am thinking about pvc pipe fitted with the carbon filter. Maybe two, one intake the other exhaust. Thoughts?

Tried to edit the post but it would not save (probably due to the browser settings). Correction: I am thinking about pvc pipe fitted with the carbon filter *with mounted pc fans on tubes*

What I did was told my parents I want to own a green house and grow tomatoes on a mass scale (which I do want to) so in order to get experience I need to grow inside. Perfect excuse to build a grow tent and have a 600 watt HPS system. Then put the tomatoes in front and the pot in back.

The thing with carbon filters is it has to be packed tightly by a machine to work properly. It will work to an extent but you might still get smells. I'd try the ona jell and wipe it on the blades of the out take fan.

doesnt it beat the stealth of the pc case if u have 2 pvc pipes stickin out of it???
I was thinking more along the lines of the pvc tubes on the inside mounted in a way to push the air out through designed holes or have another fan there. Would carbon filters be worth it at that point?

yeah you'll want to rig something up if you want to be stealth about it. I experimented with a PC grow a few years back and it definitely smelled like a garden in my bedroom when I'd get home after work. Since you can tuck that PC into a corner or put stuff around it, i'd recommend hedging on the side of odor control over stealthy looks. If you need to, rig up some sort of external filter and just hide it behind the PC. You'll also need lot of ventilation. I had a huge PC with like 4 powerful PC fans and it still got HOT in there.

On a second thought, if the room with the PC is small enough, you might be able to just put a fan/carbon filter somewhere else in the room. I don't think you necessarily need it attached to the PC. I'm just speculating though.

The room is a small bedroom that is used as a computer room now. Since a lot of people use the room I am definetly paranoid about growing. I may put the computer in the closet (I have run servers before, this would not suprise people in the house) and try some external odor control. Are there alternatives to carbin filters? Would a glade plugin + internal carbon filter be enough for one plant? (I am only semi serious about the plugin). I may try to grow a tomato plant in the room so organic/plant smell isn't a red flag, do you think this would be enough? I am eager to get my strawberry cough seeds ordered!

This strand made me join this site..... let me know how it goes if you go through with it. I've been researching to make a grow box but I'm hesitant due to the smell issue.... I'm thinking that having a carbon filter next to the PC Box should take care of the problem if you're only growing one plant.
As a suggestion, why not put your box in your room, preferably in your closet instead of the common computer room??
Good Luck!!!

There's a tutorial somewhere of how to make a basic carbon filter out of PC fans, activated carbon, a pen holder and pantyhos.
It's pretty good if you make it correctly.
PLUS, it can be mounted inside the PC itself, if you reverse the fan direction and put it where the exhaust fan is.

You should be able to get away with using a Gonzo bag, They work good for small area's that don't move a lot of air. You can get them from Home Depot or Amazon and they work decent.

one thing is closed tent and smell...how about you open it for watering etc ? smell will instantly blast into room. No way to grow in these conditions. forget it
