Patient-Grower arrangements

So I got my OMMP card a few months ago and I've just been getting my meds from the dispensary. However, I got laid off a couple weeks ago and can no longer afford the costs. I can't grow for myself, so I'm looking for someone to grow meds for me.

I've had one grower say that he would cover the costs of the new grower card ($100) and could provide me with 1 1/2 oz. every 2 months. That doesn't sound like much to me, but then again, I'm not paying for it.

So how about you guys tell me about some arrangements you're happy with, or unhappy with? Give me some advice on what to look for and what to avoid. I really have no idea what to expect from a grower and I'm kind of flying blind.

I give the guy I caregive for an ounce a month. A quarter ounce a week for absolutely no investment is good if you ask me. Paid for his medical card and I pay to renew it.

Guessing you're in PDX?
From one fellow patient to another, you usually get screwed by growers if you don't know them and don't lay out terms beforehand. Even then there is still a very high chance that come harvest time they give you the finger and drop off the earth. Or you're stuck with their outdoor they try and pawn off as their latest indoor harvest (not always, but back home that is the common occurrence with the handful of patients I know/met.) In actuality that's pretty messed up as they are purposely giving you inadequate meds.

I was in your situation and have been lucky enough to transition into supplying myself with meds. Currently I hope to be able to add a patient, maybe two. Although I can't give you too much of a recommendation, if you're willing I'll gladly assist in brainstorming the things you desire as it would also help me to know what to offer my patients, what kind of things they expect from me and what is to be expected of them. Quick Example:
My patient expects to be given their medicine on a consistent basis (such as 1st of every month, end of month etc) but until our first harvest of their plants I cannot provide medicine so I would like for my patient to be understanding of the fact that it could be approximately 2-3 months until meds become available depending on where I currently am on my personal rotation, but thereafter should be no hiccups!

IMHO 1/4 oz every month is extremely low. Being a patient I would never accept such a low quantity, at least a 1/2 oz a month but preferably 1/month. Only way I would accept less is if they were some true dank as it can be common for the higher quality strains to be low yielders.

I hate to bend the curve here but I am a long time grower and get a little PO'd about the stinginess and down right ripping off of patients. You are growing medicine on THEIR AUTHORIZATION and all of the plants belong to them. You are entitled to be reimbursed by the patient for the costs if you so choose and that is fine. If however you can't supply more than an ounce a month then you have no business providing for others. I personally provide my patients with whatever they need which varies from 3 oz + hash and tincture - to 35g of RSO + meds - to just tincture all at no cost to them. There is nothing wrong with charging a fair amount of money for your costs and it is unfair to ask folks to work for nothing but that is the law. If you can't grow enough to take care of your own needs, the needs of your patients, and have a surplus then please take the time to learn the craft before you disappoint a patient depending on you, willfully or not. I was the president of a MMJ support group for over a year and saw all too many times patients that waited months for meds often paying for the grow (also not legal ) only to be told there were no meds for them due to mold, ripoffs, or handed a bag of swag like it means something. Best of luck both to those looking and to those growing for them, just play fair. :peace:

one of the most honest and truthful posts I have ever seen.

If you choose to give them your smoke thats fine for you. I think its fair charging per bag? They have 0 dollars invested into the operation wherein i have thousands.

I said to make an investment in your craft not throw thousands of dollars at a grow op. I also said there is nothing wrong with recouping your costs if you have done your homework and put in the time it takes to be an experienced and capable grower. I'm just tired of seeing well intentioned or profit driven growers taking advantage of patients who depend on them for medicine, not recreational activity which I also have no problem with. Like I said, just play fair or grow on the down low not under the guise of helping the sick.

Profit driven grower. Like its a bad saying. I'm in it for the profit. I make no bones about it feeds my family. IMO 99% of those who are growers aren't doing it to help folks if it works out that they do that's great but they are looking to help themselves and there is nothing wrong with that.

you are correct i jumped the gun, I apologize. Do you really not charge anything to any of your patients?

I am a patient myself and can afford to grow without reimbursement. I don't have any problem with people making a profit either above their costs if that's what they want to do, I just like to see growers take care of the patients. bongsmilie

FYI We all do things for a number of reasons. I have an ongoing nearly 20 year old feud with a local Judge, former DA, fervent anti-drug Nazi. I do everything in my power to promote medical marijuana including appearing in an article in a local paper as well as a radio interview on the subject when I was the president of a medical marijuana support group. It really pisses him off and that makes me happy.....call me selfish. :hump:

your karma is in the right spot, cashcroppers and their meds are so easy to spot. Be diff if they didn't sell the top shelf and let some trickle down to their patients, but when they can get top dollar, they take it and the patient gets what popcorn mess is left

That may have been your experience but that not the norm.

its the norm down south, and from what caretakerdad said, its happening up north also, I suspect its more normal than you think, not sayin your clique does it, but many, many do.

I surely wish it wasn't goin on as bad as it is, but people are broke and they do what they do for a buck. Fact of life. Many people never question, just take whats give em, and roll on. Some of us are serious bout our medicine and don't like the games.

you too as well, sir. I will admit, I should have went to Portland and tried to do what I wanted to do, which is basically just my own. southwest part of this state is like another world from Portland. After some years, it still amazes me. peace and karma to you.

To top it off, some are charging their patients street prices, pretending it's top shelf, and then shorting them. By almost a quarter/per ounce. Wtf? You think I just fell off the turnip truck, and I'm not going to notice that the oz looks light, and then weigh it when I get home???

That assclown will get some serious stink eye from me, forever. (harsh words, I know!)

Please let me get better with cloning, and get my perpetual grow in full swing. This is ridiculous. Life's too short to deal with assholes on a lower level.

Sorry for the rant.

A patient should never pay even close to street or BM price under no circumstance even for the top shelf. It's disgusting any growers or clubs that do should be ashamed.
I know it's pretty norm in a lot of clubs but it's not right, when I see fifty and seventy dollar eighths I am shocked and appalled at the same time.
With the weight wow I don't even want to get started it should always weigh over, always.
