I took a look at all my friends who toke and those that are in a relationship are in one where their partner smokes either as much or at least 'with' them. I on the other hand married a goody two shoes before I came out of weed retirement 3 years ago.
When I started smoking weed for the first time in our relationship, she expressed the concerns that one would expect from an American who went to public schools in the 80's and 90's during Nancy Regan's "Just Say No" bullshit and all the lies they spread about weed in those days.
A few well placed documentaries, this site, and a friend from Cali who has a medical card and she stopped being so paranoid that I'd end up in a ditch with a needle in my arm like Nancy said would happen.
After a while she did toke a couple times and to quote her, "If I want to get trashed, I think I'll just have my classic shot of Patron and a lime." I don't get it but to each their own.
After 3 years of me being a daily toker around her, she has let me get away with what I believe most women would have either divorced or tossed their men into rehab over, but she's let me grow before our child was born (she changed her mind after the baby was born and I agreed living in a crappy state) but still doesn't even blink when I toke up. Damn I love her.
Today they had their annual 'drug free workplace' lecture at her office. The first 3 years they subjected their staff to these lectures they had a lackey from personnel do it from the company manual. This year they got lazy and hired an outside specialist. He saved weed for last putting things like coke, meth, ecstasy, and then the scrip drugs first in his lecture. The contract guy had the demeanor of an ex-cop with an axe to grind according to her.
He started his part on weed with, "People think marijuana is harmless because some states now tolerate it, but I challenge you to find anyone who's life has improved because of it."
She stood up and said, "I will meet your challenge and exceeded it. In all likely hood marijuana saved my husbands life; I would call that a drastic improvement. He was told by his doctor in 2007 he'd be dead before he was 40 if he didn't drastically change his lifestyle. When presented with the drugs the doctor gave him he decided it would be better to smoke weed again than take a slew of 'psych' pills. Within a year he lost 100lbs, dropped from high risk blood pressure to normal, quit the job that was demanding 100 hours a week from him and finally pursued his dream of a graduate degree that he'd been talking about for 10 years. Top it all off he has all but completely stopped yelling about things and is much more reasonable. Sir I don't know who you've experienced in your career, but I know a lot of 'stoners' through my husband and most of them are better people than any 'sober' individual I've met, including myself."
She then stormed out of the office with the entire staff and management giving her a standing ovation. She's usually the demure quiet one so when she told me of her outburst it shocked me especially since she's kept me in the pot closet concerning anyone from her work. I don't know if anyone else has a sober spouse, but aren't they supposed to hate and leave us because we smoke weed?
Either I was a real ass when I was sober and she married a first rate jerk or I just got stupidly lucky, I'm not sure which.
