Particle size for BHO extraction

I use to run sugar leaf and fan leaves and I ground them in my grinder before filling the extractor. Now I'm running LARF and I'm not sure of the proper size of the buds or grinds. I got a poor yield on my last extraction, I'm thinking of grinding the buds that have been run and see if there's any resin left in the bud.

What size do you use? Do you grind your buds before extraction?

Any help will be appreciated.

I normally just run sugar leaf.

if I run popcorn buds I normally don’t do anything but pack it and blast it. Sometimes I will chop it up a little.

when I run buds I will chop it in a manual old fashioned onion chopper. I will chop it into smaller bits but not as fine as a grinder.

According to Clarke in Hashish, the trichomes sizes are:

150 microns – large plant debris

130 microns – very large resin glands

110 microns – large resin glands

90 microns – medium resin glands

70 microns – small resin glands and debris

50 microns – very small debris and little resin

below that – very small dust and debris

I process the buds to 3/8 to 1/2" for BHO using one of these:
