Ozone Generators Any Good?

Has anyone got first hand experience with Ozone Generators are they as good as the manufacturers state I want one primarily to kill bacteria and mold spores that may be in the air in the grow room rather than masking smells, now the builders have finally left I am reinstating my grow room and thought this might be a good investment if all I have read about them is true, just don't want to rush out and buy one to find that I have wasted money on another wonder gizmo.

They're not good for your heath. Don't do it.

They work good run them on timers.

Don't run one anywhere near your plants or the room they are in. It will severely fuck up the odor. Be careful if you do use one they can kill you if you don't run them right. I wouldn't use it for the purpose you want one for, like I said it will fuck up your plants odor in the way you don't want it to if its operating near them. Due to the function of an ozone generator you would put it outside the grow area to destroy the smell around the room. Not anywhere near the plants. I know this is redundant but I can't stress that point enough. Do not run one in your grow room, especially not near your plants.

Probably not made myself clear I intend to use it to sterilise the room and equipment before beginning growing in it again as it has been empty for six months and being in the cellar has developed a rather musty smell, I have no intention of using the room while carrying this out even though the World Health Organization state that it is safe to breathe ozone providing it doesn't exceed 0.05ppm which is also the ideal amount for killing bacteria and spores, nursing homes use these to mask the smell of the incontinent and hospitals use them to sterilize wards. What I want to know are the ones sold by Grow Shops any good i.e. do they work or should I look elsewhere maybe take a trip to a nursing home with a large bag.

They work very well. I use them in the house and also for the room. It will kill any mold, and prevent new mold from growing. In order to do a complete sterilization, its gonna take a well sealed room and 24 hrs sitting in there on. I have used them for odor control since I started growing. I'm still alive.

Oh, if that's the case, then go for it. It'll do what you want it to. And yes, the ones at grow shops do work.

they need to be running often as spores are always in the air
i have used a few different types/models

if you search around you will find corona discharge units that are well priced £40 or so that will produce around 500mg per hour
this is plenty, after 20 mins of this running in a closed room you would not want to sit in there, it would smell like a chlorine swimming pool

i have seen much larger units for air cleaning that are still well priced £200 or so, that will produce 2-3 grams of ozone per hour
but this would be huge overkill imo,
the uv tube ozone generators are more expensive and have one main advantage of being able to produce
more ozone when the humidity is higher but that should not matter in a well controlled grow room

ozone is also use with aquariums you can buy cheap units from these type of suppliers too
since you only plan to use it to clean the room before each go , i see no point on spending lots of money on the uv types

I used to manage a housekeeping department in a hotel for several years. Ozone machines are great and we have had to use it to clear out some very serious funk on many occasions. I actually preferred using those as much as possible over chemical treatments (odor counteractants) I will offer my advice based on my experience with Ozone. If you have the extra money, get one designed to cover square footage way beyond the area you intend to use it on(especially helpful if you want to clear it quickly) They offer some small ozone machines that plug into an outlet like a glade plug in. Those work very slowly and are really only intended for small areas like a bathroom, I do not recommend them, I have tested them, in a small office, it barely did anything. Some of the ozone machine models come with a timer and a dial to adjust the amount of ozone generated. Never be in the same room will it's operating (unless to turn on or off), the machine creates O3, you can actually suffocate if you spend a lot of time in the same room. Always ventilate the area well before going back into the room (as simple as opening a window or door with a fan going for a few minutes). Always handle your ozone machine with care, the technology uses ceramic plates to generate the Ozone and are fragile, break those and you break your machine. Hopefully a replacement ceramic plate is available, if not, you're getting a new machine. As far as maintenance, the ceramic plates do need to be cleaned occasionally, you will know when your machine just doesn't seem to be very effective. Refer to the manufacturers instructions on cleaning and maintenance.

I own a couple of small air purifiers for my place (for my allergies, and they help a lot) They do produce some ozone (slightly below the legal limit to be occupying a room while running). If I smoke in the same room with them running, an hour or two goes by and the smell is gone (even with blunts) Don't think they can keep up with scrubbing some stanky danky air though.

A sulfur burner will work better for mold and spores. Ozone can and will damage you plants if in excess. For your purpose bleach and a good 15 min. burn with sulfur will clean your room right up. Now if your looking for NO smell...well that's a different matter....JAS

i used a uvonair 1000 jr in my grow room and it totally masked the smell. as mentioned earlier it WILL affect the aroma of your herb but only temporarily. once you harvest/dry the smell returns and all is good. like jteezymane said, dont run an ozone generator in your home (my room was detached from the main house). you could poison yourself.

I just cop'd the OZN-1 ...the plan is to install it in the duct work (that vents to the outside) and put it on a timer at 1st...I'll let ya'll know how it goes
