Outdoors in SE Virginia

When it gets up in the 90s I pretty much stick to water, no nutes. I might add some CalMag and Terpinator, but hold off on the Fox Farms schedule.

They look cool at night...

I was wondering what happened to the update? Damn clouds kept messing with me today. I'm going to need to spray for leaf munchers. I keep finding leaf hoppers and these little glass flies munching on my blue dream. They are starting to take a toll on the leaves so it's probably past time to spray for them. I was hoping just picking them off would do it but I'm losing the war.

Anyone have advice for a good foliar spray to keep these leaf hopper and flies off my delicious blue dream? They're sucking the chlorophyll because I can see the white stripes and spots they leave behind. Thanks for any advice you guys have.

I’ve been using spinosad; never saw any evidence of damage, but went preventive while the plants were in veg state. I also released around 500 ladybugs and put up a ladybug house. I don’t know how many of them stuck around, but I felt good just letting them get back to nature. I’m gonna mix some neem oil and spray all the aromatic herbs and ornamental flowers that surround the weed. gotta be careful spraying stuff while the weed plants are in flower, so I’ll set up a defensive perimeter around them. I might invest in another 1000 lady bugs, 500 for my house and 500 for the 4 plants at the GFs house. Couple more night time photos...

Did you have any problems with burning from the spinosad. I can foliar spray it at dusk but it might be a tiny bit damp in the morning. Neem as burnt up some indoor plants of mine when I was learning to grow. Very light sensitive stuff.

I burnt the tips off mine with it...nothing very bad though....better than the bugs eating it up

Amen to that. I've decided to spray because I'm doing more damage trying to smash them on the leaves then they're doing. They look like they've been through a battle. Seems like blue Dream is a favorite though. Bag of Oranges is not getting hit anywhere near as bad.

I usually mist the plant down lightly at sunset, and apply spinosad or neem, and let them sit overnight. about an hour before the sun hits them they get a heavier misting to rinse off residual pesticide.

since I can easily move them around, a couple times a week I clear the area in which they sit, sweep and wash it down, then hit it with a good dose of insect killer. Since the pots are in the crates, the bottoms of them never touch the stonework. Once a week, I lightly mist with spinosad the outside of the pots in The crates too.

Someone should just start a VA growers thread like the Maine growers thread so we don't continue to hijack RE's thread. I'm a lazy bastard by nature and way better at ideation
please let me know if a va one is started

You and me both, this cloudy crap has got to go. Had a 400 pound black bear manage to pry open my "bear proof" trash container two nights ago. It's a steel construction job box. Been bear proof for 15 years but there's an exception to every rule and I walked out the front door at 3:11am to see him on my front steps. He got rubber buckshot in the ass. Life in the mountains. Hope he doesn't decide he wants to try weed. His ass will be toes up in the game wardens truck in a hurry, unless he's nice and let's me keep him in the freezer. Biggest bear I've seen up hear probably in 20 years.

So nice to have open land. I have property but it's mostly all heavily wooded. I'm trying to get some cleared now that we are legal for next summer. I have two natural streams on my land for water which I can use to run drip lines off of I think. Beautiful plants.

I lived in AK for 4 hrs and had a couple close and unnerving bear encounters. Bet the adrenaline factor shot up immediately.
I scored some Mammoth P at my local hydroponics shop yesterday and will give it a shot tomorrow - will let the soil in which the plants reside dry out a bit today. This stuff was really pricey, but the store owner swears by it as do most of his customers. Probably give them a good misting with Flowers Kiss tonite as well after the sun goes down.

I’ll add some pics of the plants this morning after the sun comes up. I came pretty close to achieving a symmetrical growth pattern on them all - engineers gotta engineer stuff all the time dontcha know?

Trying to nip this in the bud...ha. this Is only affecting the larger fan leaves right now.

They are fed a 50% solution of the FF magic elixir twice a week. I supplement that with bone meal and Terpinator once a week, and will be adding Mammoth P on one of the other off days beginning tomorrow.

i inspected top and bottom of the leaves and saw no insects.

based on the attached chart, I think it’s either calcium or magnesium deficiency. Any comments/hints/suggestions warmly welcomed...

I have one doing the same thing....jst the bigger fan leaves

If ph has dropped too low from you feeding frequently she will lock out calcium and magnesium as well as others but cal mag issues seem to show up glaringly and quickly at least with what I've seen.

I can't upload videos because I don't belong to a hosting site but here's a pic of a smaller bear than the big boy that hit me up a couple nights ago. This year so far I've just had a mom with three healthy babies and a couple two and three year old solo cruisers come through. I have a fair amount of bear deterrents in sensitive areas and they work really well until Mr Big decided to rip apart a steel locker smh... well I stepped up my game so it's a small price to pay to share the mountain with them and all the other cool animals.
