Outdoor Shed with grow tent - pros/cons?

I'm planning a 5x5 tent grow in a shed w/600 hps for summer/fall in northern climate. Will have fully vegged plants ready for this flower tent. Anyone done something similar that wants to share some "lessons learned" from an outdoor shed grow?
Still debating the ventilation and temp control for best results and pest control in tent.

Also planning an outdoor grow this year with vegged out clones. Recommendations on when to plant outdoors north of MA area?

What say you?

I don't see a problem with a tent in a shed, so long as you can keep the temps up. I'd be looking at making sure the shed doesn't have any major drafts/watertight etc

I've no exp in this mind, just been doing some reading, as i'm considering a winter grow in a couple of spare stables.

We just know that in sheds with grow rooms etc the heat is the issue but we ride it out and really theres no quality loss if anything the yield seems to be slightly less but not by a massive amount ...and 600 son ts are used x4.
Room air circuation needs to be good thats it :)

Good luck

I have a sealed hood and plan on pushing out the heat from the tent to a vent outside. Appreciate the responses.

I'll monitor heat in the tent carefully - hope to be able to use 6-7 months a year.

Open to any other thoughts...

I have three flower tents in a shed. Summer is a bitch. Winter in cali isnt bad so its the best time really. If you insulate well and can get a big fan and filter to exchange the air in the shed when its hot you will be on the right track. I am moving to a whisperline to keep noise down.
postives if you can swing it:
-The capability to move lots of air in and out and filter it
-Insulate the shed
-make sure no light will get out while you are working on it. (if doing chores at night)

If you used a space heater and could control your ventilation you might be able to run almost year-round depending on location.

So I thought I'd update this thread and tell you that I ended up moving the tent indoors. The above comments were all spot on. My shed was not air tight or insulated - the air going in the tent at the time I got up and running was very humid and uncontrollable without proper filters/ventilation and possibly dehumidifying. This would have been an uphill battle and I am happy bringing this indoors for many reasons. I read a post right after I put the tent in the shed about similar set up in a barn that had all the same issues. Lesson learned - if you are able to control the humidity, air flow and filtration easily, do so.

Right now I'm about 3 weeks into flower and looking great.

Setting up the tent in the shed helps with wind drafts and it not being seen but it can also makd it really hot. If you have an air conditioner then its not much different than setting ghe tent up in a house. most people keep their house cool so the cool room helps keep temps down whereas the shed isnt already climate controlled. As far as bugs, you treat it the same as you would anywhere the tent is set up. A little preventative maintenance and spraying as needed. You need air flow unless your using co2 so dont bother sealing the shed just spray the area around It.

My shed gets shaded from pines which certainly helps...that being said I had to put a hole in my floor with a good filter...pulls in cool air from under the shed instead of hot air like it did when I had the Vent in the wall

A+++ - thats exactly what I would have needed to do and the A/C too. Temp fluctuations were crazy too so I'm glad the grow is in a much more controllable environment now. Great comments all - thanks!

:weed::weed::weed:? Is that if your growing in a shed why do u still need the tent? Ex if your worried about the heat an things like that. So now u will have to control 2 climates, the inside building temp and the tent temp! IMHO I do basement auto grows to have summer smoke while I start my few 100 females for outside every year! Also not sure what type of shed. But I would make u spot in it some where in a corner , hang light, light proof for dark cycle an let her go! Way easier to control 1 temp! Really need to watch for BUGS... Grow tent outside is risky! IMHO Good Luck this year an happy growing..!! :weed: ✌

I wanted to use the tent to better control bugs and conditions. Originally planned on venting in and out from outside shed. Again, I moved this indoors as there were too many issues in the shed and I think the heat would have been killer eventually. The shed had moisture/humidity issues and was not tight enough to control possible bugs. All systems go now - I'll post some candy soon or start a grow log. I'm sure there are sheds and climates out there that will work, just not in the cards here. I'll stick to an easier environment and maybe some outdoor fun!

Glad to here your up an running! I am just harvesting my autos I started March 22 They grew up with all my outdoor crop. image.jpg An I'm a firm belive in autos now. If u have the room to start a few autos while your vegging your outdoor girls it makes for some nice smoke through the summer while the big girls grow!! Here's 3 but 2 on left got chopped an one on right still going. Get a chance Check out my journal cash crop Automazing. They r over 40 inches tall from top of bucket an they grow so fast u will never have to worry about bugs or budrot. They also like the high heat. I run mine between 75*-85* up until last few weeks drop back to about 70* to finish up. Been pulling 5-7 oz dried off 1 plant in 70 days!! Back to trimming! ✌✂
