Outdoor low yield?

Not enough light and for it being so small it has nitrogen deficiency. Biggest problems with low yield.

the plant was topped at about 12" tall. yeah, i guess the light or lack of. any advice on growing in the mountains? got to be on the mountain top or are cut fields, power lines, etc. acceptable? this one was grown along a cleared section for power lines.

Why exactly would choosing not to top your plants be a problem?
Because when you don't top your plants they aren't as willing to bush out. You leave the main growth alone they are more willing to grow taller to the light.

Its light growing indoors and using a 1000w lamp from farm away. Its gonna keep trying to grow closer to the light source and not wanna bush out. As soon as you top it the other growth will try to go higher. Its like topping a straight shot clone to give it 2 main cola sites.

I am plenty familiar with the purpose and reasons for topping I just don't think that it's necessary to get a decent yield. The way you mention topping, it seems like you're saying that if a person doesn't top their plants, their yield will suffer greatly. Yeah, topping will give you an extra cola or three but he should have got more bud than he did even though he didn't top her.

the thing with outdoor growing, is that you really have to find a good place that gets atleast 10 hours of direct DIRECT sunlight...not tucked away on the woods, in the middle of a briar patch, under a willow tree...lol

first of all he said he DID top the plant at 12" thats why he has 2 main stalks that are growing upwards.

in nature plants compete for the sunlight, meaning they grow tall to get the top of the plant to the highest spot above the other plants. this is what happened to your plant. it sensed all the surrounding plants and concentrated on growing tall opposed to building nodes and leaves. this is probally why it is a better indoor strain as they dont have to compete for light. some strains do better outdoors in the woods as they require less light to grow. nutrients may have been a factor but the plant isnt showing much signs of deficiency. maybe try a different strain in thet spot one thats recomended for outdoor growing and stick to your grow room with that strain.

baisicly the rule of thumb is if a plant is stretching it is looking for light, its SoTF. but where MJ is a seasonal plant. it spent too much time seeking out that light to develop those nodes for reproduction.

at least this is my opinion :)

matthebrute - thanks for the answer and i am going to agree with your analysis. i will try different genetics in the same spot this summer and see where that gets me. also, when i transplanted, the height of the plant was somewhat shorter than the surrounding growth - which also aids in your opinion. i should have known this, but needed someone to point out the obvious. i guess the good news is that it was my first "success" at outdoors. gathering the knowledge is key to getting the results one is seeking. thanks for your help!!

If you have seeds or can clone a indoor ppheno you should try it again outdoors because I know I've tried growing texada indoors and it did almost the same thing and texada is a outdoor only. Strain so you may just have a strain that dosnt perform outside since you've said indoors it dose good, I'm still new to this shit though so its just a thought.
