Outdoor breeding this season.

Hi folks a couple of years ago I asked for some advise on breeding outside, but never got around to it. Looking back on the advise I was given on that thread, and reading through some others, I've formulated this plan:
Grow out as usual, all seeds will be popped at the same time, grown in the nursery, then planted out.
When they start to show sex, clone the males I like, then kill all the males, keep the clones in the greenhouse far away from the grow. Collect pollen from the males, then pollinate the females.

My question is, will I be able to clone the males, and have those clones produce pollen in a short enough time frame to pollinate the females? I haven't clones before so I have no idea if this is going to work in the timeline.

Thanks.

Skip the cloning part, just keep the wanted males collect pollen away from the girls easy to do out door just grab some early drop pollen then trash the male before it drops tons of dust.

I don't think you'll have time to clone the males and then grow them out. Why not just move the males to the greenhouse and collect the pollen from the ones you want to?
I usually grow directly in the soil. The legal status where I am nessasitates a less than perfect approach to growing. Having said that if the legality where to change - although many things might alter about my growing process, I think I would still grow directly in the soil.

How would I keep the males seperate apart before they show sex?
Edit: it is difficult to convey tone over text, so to clarify, that is a genuine question, not an attack.

If you collect male clones right before they pollinate you can catch them at a point where the will finish opening while sitting in a cup of water. Trick is to collect within 2-3 days of pollen sacs opening. I don't consider it as risky as it sounds if you have seen enough males progress.

Keep the males inside and flower them while the females veg outside, you should grow the males out for 40 days of flower or more to make the right selection.

If the males haven't shown sex to the extent they are producing "starting to swell" pollen sacks and you're limited on space, they can hang with the girls for a bit. Until the males are ready all they can do is breathe heavy, they aren't gonna pollinate anything.

Not saying that's optimal, but if you tend your plants regularly and you know which ones are males, it can be done. Just don't ignore your plants when the boys start getting excited. Boys will be boys then.

That's fantastic! I can tend to them everyday, so hopefully I'll be able to catch them in time . Otherwise I guess I'll just have away more seeds than I need

Might want to consider growing in containers, that gives you mobility, (if grow site is compromized in addition to the ability to move plants out of bad weather) just a suggestion.ccguns
