So heres the deal, started germ on the 8th, and have been vegging with 4x23watt CFLs and one of my plants shows considerable problems (another is starting, PPP remains a proud warrior plant :)

The plant leafs are twisting, with orange spots showing up and on the underside there are patches of black. i rubbed my finger and saw no movement (don't think its bugs)

I have seen gnats in my box (covered with sand, didn't quite kill them all)

I know the pics are large but I didn't want to lose detail by scaling them down to o much. As you can see, the new fan leaves are purple, the underside has black spots and the leaf is twisting (and has orange spots)

I've searched all I can to mixed results per thread. I would really appreciate some help guys.

Thanks!

very interesting, looks like your seedling is in some form of sand base for your medium. I'm not sure what chemicals and nutes sand holds. With a seedling that young I wouldn't worry about it until it's bigger then take some measures like transplanting it to a soil base with more nutes in it or flush your sand medium out and add some nutes of course.

Hi smokie, the plants are in a mixture of Fox Farms Ocean Forest and Light Warrior. The sand is there to kill gnats more than anything. I wonder if that does contribute.. hmm

I'm starting to wonder if i need to start nutes

The Light warr and OF have plenty of nutes. Im not sure what u have going there, but everytime you water in that soil it gives them plenty of nutes. Least for the first 3 weeks or so.

you dont wanna overwater young plants in that rich soil.

Mine are doin the same thing one has purple tips on its leaves and the other has an orangeish look to it ... FF light warrior..

Are your containers light proof or are they clear or white?

Well, I decided to go buy a cheapy $10 meter and some of the ph test kits

I checked with the meter and it seems less than precise enough for my desires (showed around 7.2). I then used the ph test kit and as you can see in the 'after' part of the image, it was very green (alkaline). I decided at the risk of killing my plants (whom haven't grown in 2 days) i would transplant them into fresh soil. I packed it, drained it, tested it, sifted it so it was looser dug a hole and put my plants back in. Hopefully they don't die on me but we'll see.

As you can see in the picture the ph test came back on the new soil mix much less alkaline and according to the chart is now around neutral.

Appreciate any feedback

I wonder what caused it to get so far out of whack? Are you leaving the plants sitting on a plate or something in their own runoff? If so that might be causing it.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about that. Currently they're on a baking sheet so any run off probably wont drain from them. How would you suggest I situate the plants?

Thanks

Update. Found spider mites today. Little bastards. Bunches of them.

Found a recipe by AES110 and used it about 20 minutes ago.

Victory was quick and decisive! Little non moving black dots all over, sprayed with a lot of water (brita) so hopefully no permanent damage. I really hope this helps. they're having a hard enough time. All the plants are nearly at the top of the soil from falling over, its pretty bad

Guys, my plants are doing pretty bad and I'm real worried. I don't know what to do for my girls. The two mysteries are so far the most damaged while the feminized PPP remains the strongest. I don't see any black dots anymore but I'll check again later anyway.

I could really use some help. These are pictures of my plants this morning.

Potseed Mcgee: Your medium is way way way, to water saturated thats why your plant isn't growing like it should, when you have too much water your plant can easily be prone to disease and minor burns, odd brown spots, etc. When you grow with seedlings and clones for that matter for the first two weeks until your plant has roots coming out the bottom, you want to water from the bottom so your soil doesn't get water saturated, your plant only takes what it needs instead of having too much, and your roots grow down stabilizing your plant for strong stock and growth. Don't water for at least a 3 days too a week until your soil dry's out and your plant starts growing. Never water from the top with a seedling or cloneling, unless your experienced. Hope this helped, and don't worry about your ppm or ph till later your plant just needs some dry soil. Oregon the chronic state.
