Opinions on grow tent and strain choice

hello friends!

i am going to expand my grow a little bit and would like to get some opinions on how im going to go about it. we will start with what i have now: a grow lab "clonelab" where i start seeds and clone. in there i pop seed/clone in humidity domes under t8's and when they go into 1 gal pots i put them in the tents lower shelf under a t5 fixture. i have a veg area with a 600w metal halide and a budroom with 2x600w hps. i run 10 gal hardpots with super soil and run 6 at a time, perpetual.

i am thinking of adding a small tent as a space for pheno hunting, while using my current budroom for running only proven clones. i would start seeds using my clonelab setup and would veg and flower them in the tent. how would you experienced nerds go about the details here?

i am thinking i will set up a 4x4 with a 600 and starting 9 seeds at a time in 5 gal pots. i will veg long enough to take the tops as clones and continue vegging just long enough for them to recover and start 12/12. i would remove males as they show and hopefully end up with enough space to finish out some females to be considered for full size runs. the purpose of this tent will be pheno searching only, i have no concerns about what it will yield. and i also have no interest in using botted nutes.

sound good?

i also need to pick a strain for the tents maiden voyage. i would like to add an indica dom strain to my mostly sativa collection.

Sounds like a cool idea man. I wish i had a pheno hunting tent! If i was to pick a TGA indica dom, id try ether Qush or Ace of Spades... If your going for indica effects, i think id go Qush... But you cant go wrong with any of them.

thanks for the input friend. qush is a possible choice, currently im leaning towards deep purple or space dawg... im trying to replace my bsc dom plushberry. its a beautiful plant and its a blast to grow but to my taste (and more importantly to the taste of my patients) the effects it produces are good but not great. plushberry is an 8 out of 10 and i only wanna keep 11's :)

do you think the method i described is the best way to run a "pheno tent"? the only style of growing i have ever done is 60 day vegged bushes with plenty of room in the budroom. i know your a scrog guy, but i dont think that would work well here seeing as i want minimal veg time and as many phenotypes to choose from as possible. i would like to run as short a veg time as is reasonably possible, the only real requirement being a clone from each plant.

Yeah man, i think that would be good. As long as you veg long enough to see their growth traits, I think you have a solid plan, and i am envious of it. haha, like i said, id love to be able to run a pheno tent. But i have plant # limits, so its going to take a while to go through 6 Chernobyl phenos i have.. I say go for it bro.

right on man. i think im gonna hold off on it for about 2 weeks so i can time the tent harvest around my production run harvest. patient votes have been tallied and it looks like space dawg is gonna do the cherry popping, im gonna start a ten pack and drop the 9 best looking sprouts into 5 gal nursery pots with super soil. i might have to create my first grow log for this....

great idea if you have the plant #s

i did a 4x4 last winter and if you want quick results, i would go with a 3-4 gal pot, flower at 12" once they show sex and take clones as you flip. you should have plenty of material to take from. u should have no problem flowering 6-9 small plants in there. may have to keep them tall and not so bushy, but you will get a good sample of each pheno, 1-2 oz ea.

thanks for the strategy input bro. if i get a 2oz sample of each pheno i will consider that a victory. im going to expect like 12oz each run, but like i said before yield is not a concern here i just wanna pump out fresh samples of new smoke fairly often.

how should i set up my ducting? will i need 2 high output fans to keep things cool? kinda hoping a 6 inch 400 cfm fan with take of both cooling and ventilation.

I use one 400-440cfm inline fan at the tops of my GL80's to exhaust heat from my 400w hps lights... I have to have an AC in the room running at 68F almost all the time. That keeps the "in tent" temps right around 80 during lights on. Not sure in your case, just thought it throw that out there.

right on brother.im gonna try it with a 400cfm fan and an air cooled hood, with 1 end of the hood just pulling air from inside the tent. if that doesnt keep the temps in check i will duct the light and the ventalation/odor control seperately. hopefully i can pinch some pennies and only run 1 fan, but if your gonna do something do it properly or not at all eh?

I'm running a GL145 which is closer to the size you want to hunt in. I'm running a 600w HPS with a 424cfm pulling air from outside the tent through a cool tube and vented out through an attic vent. I have a carbon scrubber hooked to a 170cfm fan venting out into the room. With a window unit set at 72° (and doesn't run long to keep it there), my interior tent temperature is always between 76-77°. Hope this help in someway.

that helps a lot. looks like im gonna have to order up a second fan for ventilation. thanks dude!
