Opinions: 100 Watt Fluorescent Light - 1000 watts of light output

The bulb itself is good. But you will probably have to modify the hood/socket part.
The bulbs themselves won't get very hot, but the ballasts will get VERY hot. And i assume the ballast is in there with the bulb, so that unit will put out some heat. Just keep that in mind.
And forget about the 1000watt part. That's bull. Its not even CLOSE to a real 1000W HID. Just pay attention to the lumens. The lumens are 10500, they dont add together. 2 bulbs still only produce 10500 lumens. Its just that 2 bulbs will shine 10500 lumens over a larger area. BUt its still only 10500 lumens, even if you have 10 of 'em. But yeah 2 of those should be good for a couple of small to medium plants, 3-4 Sq feet. At least for veg. You want more/better light to flower. Good luck.

Thanks guys! I picked up the pair and disassembled them -- getting them ready for cabinet mounting for my seedling chamber. Had to bypass the built in light sensor too. The light is very blue and pretty strong. Can't complain for $25 each.

Check out these 100w Flourescent Lights putting out 1000 watts of light

I have an opportunity to get a pair of these for $50. Would this work in an indoor grow -- 2000w of 6400K light is great for growing, correct?

Total lumens comes out to 20,100 so it should be good for 3-4 sq feet?

Anyways, good idea or bad?

Yo my dude, wtf? lol. :P Not trying to say anything bad or nothing... but where the hell can you get a 100watt bulb... that puts out 1000watts? a 100watt bulb only puts out 100watts as it will say on the box. Sooo... what the hell you mean?:-?

Its a CFL thing man. They have to sell them according to "equivalent" watts. (which is still a joke...) They "SAY" its 1000watts, but its only 100.
Its all about the business taking advantage of ignorant consumers.
Originally, to sell a 23watt cfl they had to tell people that it is "equivalent" to 100watts. So they say that this 100watt CFL is "equivalent" to 1000watts. But its still a joke. A 1000 watt HID puts out over 100,000 lumens and the 1000watt equivalent CFL only puts out 10,500. So obviously that not "equivalent".
People always bought bulbs according to watts instead of lumens. And still do really LOL. Nuckleheads. But we who grow indoor know better. we buy according to lumens per watt.

I think you should be fine, but I would try to get some 2700k in there when they flower. I have 3x 200w (actual) cfls two are vege and one is bloom. And then 6x 68w (actual) 2700k in my 9sqf grow room and they seem to be doing just fine (i have about 80,000 give or take). Just get some ventilation in there. I was amazed at how hot the 200w bulbs got and I would assume that 100w would be hot as well.

Yea the whole CFL labeling thing is BS. I was in no way trying to say this thing puts off 1000w equivalent of light. In fact the manufacturer had to go back and relabel them as 750w equivalent with their new revision, even so thats still pushing it like crazy. I've seen a 1000w HID and this light doesn't even come close. I was just going off what the label said.

But then again, $25/light will get my seedlings off the ground until I can get my 600w HPS/MH combo light installed in a cabinet. After that they'll be my seedling/clone lamp -- again, they are very bright with lots of blue. Its suprisingly low temp! I took them out of their casing and ran them overnight and hardly any heat off the ballast. In fact it doesnt even look like a ballast (ill try to get pics). The only hints of heat are off the bulb itself and even so it isnt that much.

I should have 10x White Widow seedlings under them in about two weeks and we'll see how these lights can grow.
