One Deep Water Culture under CFL & Sunshine

THE BOTTOM LINE
This once soil bagseed Female has vegged for about 2 and a half months of 24hour light and is now on day 2 of 12/12 flowering under British Columbia's sun and a closet CFL setup of 3 42w'ers and many other supplemental cfls. Grown with FloraNova Grow by GH and ThriveAlive B-1 by Floratech, Blooming Essentials 100% organic by Grotek will be used a week or so into flowering.

DEEP WATER CULTURE
A constantly submerged root system obtains it`s nutrients through applied nutrients in a solution aerated by, most commonly, your average fish aquarium airstones and air pumps. This bubble bucket is powered by 3 30 gallon tank outlets; One line out to a large circular airstone, it`s bubbles are very large and rise from the center of the tank; A second line out to 2 foam wands provides very fizzy aeration along two sides; A third line out is split between considerably smaller hard green and soft white airstones filling the gaps between foam wands with similar aeration. This container is protected with metal tape, providing an environment absolutely sealed of light, discouraging algea and other problems. Ultimately, and not at all unlike a soil operation, deep water applications require a well aerated nutrient solution.

TECHNIQUES
Honestly, I rarely check ph, allow chlorine to disipate, measure temperature, ppm and such, and do not use h202. I operate on very basic fundamentals; good nutrients and light.

I have not topped this plant however a week before switching to flower I removed all the branches at the main stem leaving only shoots, healed and than tied down the bottom shoots. The plant was EXTREMELY tolerant of the intense pruning, seems as though absolutely no stunting has occured and growth has continued if not accellerated.

I will very actively update throughout the flowering process and this thread is left open for anyone to comment, it`s encouraged and appreciated.
:joint: Peace

Flowering Day 10
After attempting to concoct a blooming formula, I decided to drop the scrilla on Floranova's follow up nutrient to Grow, One Part Bloom. Every couple of days I've been trimming the innards of the foliage, all the tiny useless bushes, thus my plant has not grown very much in height however I'm PERFECTLY okay with that as the plant basically surpasses my deck railing for the neighbours to see lol I am also going away for awhile so I don't want to leave a monstrous plant for my girlfriend to tend to :P

Nutrients
In succession to FloraNova Grow, I will be using FloraNova's One Part Bloom. I've also added to the force Thrive Alive B-1 All Natural Organic by Technaflora. I've already got B-1 although it is not all organic. Aswell as 100% Organic Blooming Essentials, I've recruited GrowthMax and Rage, both foliar supplements, by Grotek. I'm extremely pleased with the results so far running this DWC and can't wait for these all organic nutrients to work their magic!

bahahahahaha I loved that!!! Thanks for the comment holmes. Your right though, it will inevitably get taller but it's all good I have a grow closet for the dark period and it's totally setup with CFLs in case it's shitty throughout the day. I just love using the sun though, the dude at the hydro shop was stoked on how I've been only using sunshine lately; 9 am to 9 pm perfect sunshine exposure here in BC. Word.

I've taken a couple pics, your usual side view but aswell as stem view and a top view which I never bothered with before cause it wasn't very exciting lol Nevertheless, check it!

CLONING
After doing some research, on other sites due to the downtime Rollitup.org experienced yesterday, I came across what is called bubble cloning. Extremely easy to d-i-y, I simply put a couple holes in the lid of a container which hold straws with a slit up one side, the cuttings slip down the straw and are slightly submerged in a rooting solution aerated via 4" airstone and pump. Apparently roots should take hold within a week to 2 weeks as opposed to much longer with soil rooting. Here's a pic of my homemade Bubble Cloner, mind you that container is now in a bucket covered in saran wrap as opposed to that insufficient and stupid bottle.

Hey ya'll! Thought I'd hook ya's up with some ROOT PORN! Mind you it's with a crappy usb camera, but those are a serious root mass. This bad baby drinks more than a gallon of water a day now!! I added 5L today and mostly everyday! DWC BABY!!!

On another note, I've been applying GrowthMAX. strictly to the budsites. a lil more often than suggested but oh well I've got dank buds starting to form!! Word out!!

yo man your set up is awesome, do you think it is smart if my mother plants are in soil to clone from soil and then switch to DWC for veg and flowering? Also... do you really need that many air stones for one bucket?

really nice man, Im thinking of trying this set up for my flowering hopefully it works. btw do you think I could solely keep mother plants in DWC all year long or is that to long? The main reason i wanna know this is because I want to keep the same mothers, I don't want to start cloning off the clones from my mothers because I heard the potency of the weed goes down.

DTA = Don't Trust Anyone.

I went away for 10 days and while I was gone I had my bed slept in multiple times, my markers and paint hijacked, my room ransacked and my homegrown bud stolen.
Due to my going-away I was not going to leave the plant in their hands so I chopped it down, let dry and cured.

On a lighter note, I have acquired a fat bag of seeds, Bermise strain. Bermise has won cannabis cup and is one dank strain. I threw over 50 seeds in a wet then wrung and folded bandana which I put inside a ziplock bag, airtight and put in a dark cupboard. The success rate for germination was %99.. I believe the one seed that did not appear to germinate was actually a casing to a taproot that DID grow haha. I have a lot on my hands this time around. I will do as I always have, a combination of sunshine and cfl 24/7 for veg. I will post a link to the new journal. I've also got my own computer now so I can update daily without issue.

To answer your questions Malaki:

The more bubbles the better. I have a smaller plant going in the same bucket now but with 2 foam wands and 2 small bubble stones and the bubbles are not as impressive as before but they do seem to be sufficient.

I don't see why you could not keep a mother in dwc yearlong. Keep in mind however that you can control the above ground vegetation, you cannot, due to several dilemmas, control the growth of the roots. The root mass will be constantly expanding.

Trained to stay within 3 feet tall, my plant was drinking over a gallon of water a day during flowering. That gets to become quite the chore to maintain. In my opinion however I, and many others as well, would prefer to propagate a mother as opposed to her clones.

Knowledge is best gained first-hand from experience. Lessons are best learned from our mistakes, which is sad, but often what it takes. You learn more from making a mistake than doing things exactly proper the first time around. Making mistakes teaches us what we will most definitely not do the next time! Despite all of the things I've learned from others, I've taught myself sooo much more by trial and error.
