OMG It Actually Sprouted/Countdown To Failage

So I decided to Germinate/plant some bagseed after finding an empty pot. I ended up planting the seeds on Saturday. Since I am uber poor/struggling/awaiting poker payments online I have to do all this on the cheap. I half way didn’t even expect it to grow, now what am I going to do????

Supplies aren’t that easy for me to acquire. I get some money on Wednesdays, so I will be able to pickup a few things on Weds/Thurs

Lights: At first I used two florescent lights that I took/borrowed from my parents house. I will have gave one back yesterday. Today (wed) I went and bought a lamp/light. I wont really be able to pick anything up until next Wed or Thurs.

Are these okay temporarily? What type of light should I pick up?

The two lights that were initially on the plant:
image_38.jpg

I had two of these lights on the plant everyday until today.(sat-wed) 27w 6500K. As recommended for these type of lights, I had them really close to the plant.

Today I Bought a new lamp and bulb.

How are these bulbs for the early stages? How many lumens should I be aiming for? I'm going to add another light next week, any recommendations?

The soil I am using is some that I found in my parents house.
image_36.jpg

Decent? Probably not. I will try to pick up some Foxfarm or something better in the future for when I transplant… whenever that is supposed to be.

I used distilled water in the soil when I planted the germinated seed. I have not watered the plant yet at all. Is this a mistake? When should I water the plant next? Should I be like misting it or something?

Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea what I am doing. (which you can probably tell)

I will try to update this thread often, And will upload some pics of the plant in the morning.

Thanks for stopping by. A pre thanks to all suggestions!

Don't use that dirt. It isn't organic, and isn't meant for vigorously feeding plants.
Use the FF dirt, or make your own.

Looks like you read enough,
The two most important things about a lightbulb are the Actual Wattage, and Kelvin Rating.
Actual Wattage on the CFL bulbs you just bought are 40w, what is the Kelvin Rating? There will be a number that says 2700k, 3000k, 3500k, 4000k, 4100k, 5000k, 6400k, 6500k,
Use 2700k bulbs for flower, with one or two 6500's to reduce stretch and keep the plants denser.
Use 6500k bulbs for veg, you don't have to use a 2700k at the same time but some growers do.

Keep those bulbs about 1"-1.5" away from the plants leaves at all times.
The only rule with CFL's is to keep them as close as possible without burning the leaves.
My 40w 5000k hovers around 1" above my plant.
Make sure to get air circulation/wind on your plant.
Keep temperatures between 65-85*F.

How much space are you working with?
The fluorescent tube light you have will work good if you put it over all your plants at once, and keep it very very close to the top of plants.
Use the CFL bulbs for side lighting as the plants get bigger.

Thanks for the reply!

Damn, I knew that soil was a piece of shit! How pressing of an issue is it. Meaning can go to Wed/Thurs without it. or should I try to get the cheapest organic soil I can find locally in town. I was going to get another lamp/bulb next week wed. Should I get some organic soil instead. I am really on a tight budget. I can spend 40ish next week. I don't think I will be able to make soil. FF is kind of expensive right?

It says 4100K on the bulbs packaging. I posted a picture of the bulb to see if it was a good one. cost $15+ Let me know what you think. I wish i was able to put more light on it. I have these other bulbs, but no lamp.

any good/worth it?

I actually moved it closer to the bulbs after reading your reading what you said. I got my ac on most of the time plus a little fan on the plant for breeze.

Not working with much space atm. Will try to make better arrangements in a week or so.

I'll help you budget if you choose to consult me.
Go to your local safeway/thrift store and buy some $4 organic potting soil.
Whitney Farms is a good cheap brand.
This will work fine, and you won't need to fertilize little seedlings for the first 2-3 weeks of their life anyways.

The bulb is going to work, but in the future, get her some 6500k bulbs for vegetative state.
And get yourself some 2700k bulbs soon for the Flowering.
The most efficient CFL bulbs are 23w/1700 lumens. The Lumens you get per Watt used is the highest of all CFL bulbs. = Low electricity bill, high productivity.

Basically get 23w bulbs, 2700k/6500k for a setup.
The indoor potting soil is usually all I use, until I find cheaper/bulker dirt.
Sometimes I find a nice huge bag at a home depot/local store that is organic.

And sometimes I reuse dirt from friends grows, but this isn't advised.
The 40w bulb will be a good bulb to use on the top of the plant.
Go to a goodwill and pick up cheap used light fixtures that fit your bulbs.
Or if you want to spend money, find a good deal on small Worklight Reflector lamp things.

I would love your help budgeting this with me. I'm going to pick up new soil tomorrow. I'm going to post some pictures later of the plant on tonight. Thanks again

I used Miracle Grow potting soil in my first grow and Miracle Grow Plant food. I had a huge yield and a nice smoke. I don't recommend using the Miracle Grow plant food because you really have to be careful to not burn the plants from over-nuting. I didn't have the money at the time to invest in expensive soil or nutes. The yield was incredible and the plants were ridiculously healthy.

Work with what you have. Just make sure you pay attention to your girls. They will tell you when they're not happy. :)

I stand corrected, but if you have new dirt you could also mix them together.
"nice ol bud" dont use rep against people, that was a silly thing to say and didnt help him out at all.

So I took the other florescent light, so now I got 2 florescent lights and the other light on it... I might have to give it back I hope not lol. I had to move them out of the way for the picture.

I tried to write a funny title that would maybe get selected lol.

Keep the big fluorescent tube lamp 1"-3" from plants at all times.
They won't need the side lighting for a while.

Wasnt able to get a ride into town in order to get the new soil. Im going to do it today. Should I should I transplant to a bigger pot. Its a been a week or so since I planted the seed. I have not watered her (hopefully) at all, I just planted the seed in watered soil. Is there anything elso I should maybe get. I am on a tight budget and can spend ~15 dollars.

Hey 4bet - keep up the good work! It's great to see you're able to get that girl looking as good as that with what you have. The nice thing about those smaller CFL lights and the bendy lamp you're using, is that you can get nice and close to the leaves (1 - 2 inches away) and really benefit from all of the light you have. As you can see, you'll still be battling the 'stretch' of the small plant. I would suggest maybe a small fan if you have one, or something that can create a small breeze to keep the plant moving constantly - that will help make it stronger, and encourage it to get wider before stretching taller...

Good luck! +rep for your efforts!

Thanks I will pick up a small fan on tuesday
Small is a relative term. Your project would be considered small by most people here, which is not to say that it is any less valid. For example, there are journals here that put me in the small category.

I understand what you are saying. I've seen some rather large projects going. I Thanks for checking it out and giving your input, your Diablo OG grow looks really nice from what ive read so far!

This was the only "organic soil" that I can find locally. So what should I do now? Should I transplant to a larger pot or should I wait? I still havent watered the plant yet.

The pictures always get uploaded sideways...am i doing something wrong there?
